Special Sub-Topic: Play the Game!
|In this sport I might be doing the breaststroke, butterfly or backstroke.
Which sport is it?|
Swimming. If you cannot swim, get someone you know to teach you. It is good exercise. It will help to keep you fit - and it is great fun too!
|For my next sport I use a long pole with a paddle on the end of it.
I have two of these. One in each hand. They are called oars. What am I doing now?|
Rowing. It is hard to row in a straight line at first. But you soon get the hang of it. If you go on the water in a boat or dinghy ALWAYS REMEMBER TO WEAR A LIFE JACKET!
|What can I do next to use up some more of my energy?
I know! I need some boots with small wheels on the bottom of them.
What am I up to this time?|
Roller-skating. Roller-skating is difficult at first. But you soon get the knack. You might fall over, so ALWAYS wear the right protective clothing.
|For my next sport I need a racket, some balls and a net.
What am I playing?|
Tennis. Tennis is played on a tennis court, against an opponent. They hold big tournaments all over the world to find out who is the best player.
|I am on the move again.
This time I have wheels, two pedals and handlebars.
What am I doing now?|
Cycling. It takes a while to get your balance on a bicycle so ALWAYS wear a helmet.
|For my next sport I need some stumps, a hard ball and a bat.
What game am I playing this time?|
Cricket. Cricket is a summer game. It is played between two teams on a large field. It can take five days to complete a match. Cricket was first played more than 400 years ago.
|I have moved on to the athletics arena - phew this is tiring!
I am about to throw a type of spear as far as I can.
I had better be careful with this one!
What is the sport I am doing called?|
The Javelin. A top athlete can throw a javelin nearly 100 yards [almost 95 metres]. Watch out!
|For this sport I need to wear gloves and shorts.
It takes place in a thing called a ring - but it is square!
What am I doing now?|
Boxing. In boxing two men punch one another and try to knock their opponent down. Ouch! I do not like this. Let us move on.
|I am now in a gymnasium bouncing myself high into the air.
Look! I can do somersaults.
This is fun. What am I jumping on?|
A Trampoline. With some practice on the trampoline you can learn to perform lots of acrobatic jumps.
|This is my last sport today. Good; I am really tired now.
Well, I have my feet in stirrups and reins in my hands.
This is more relaxing! What am I doing?|
Horse Riding. Horses are wonderful creatures. It is fairly easy to ride a well trained horse. But remember if you get on a horse ALWAYS wear a safety helmet. Good luck! I am off for a well earned rest. It has been a busy day.
