Where was the kingdom?

by the sea. "It was many and many a year ago in a kingdom by the sea, that a maiden there lived whom you may know by the name of Annabel Lee."

Who coveted "her and me"?
seraphs. "But we loved with a love that was more than love in this kingdom by the sea..."

What blew out of a cloud "chilling my Annabel Lee"?
wind. "So that her highborn kinsmen came and bore her away from me."

What did Annabel Lee's kinsmen shut her up in?
a sepulchre. "To shut her up in a sepulchre, in this kingdom by the sea".

Finish this line: "And neither the angels in the heavens above or the demons down under the sea, can ever _________ my soul from the soul of the beautiful Annabel Lee."
dissever. My favorite line of the poem.

What never beams without bringing the narrator dreams of Annabel Lee?
the moon & moon. "And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes of the beautiful Annabel Lee".

Just who exactly is Annabel Lee to the narrator?
wife. "And so all the night-tide I lie down by the side of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride..."

This poem is quite short. Which poem of Poe's is the shortest?
"Deep In Earth". The poem "Deep in Earth" only has 2 lines. They are as follows: "Deep in earth my love is lying, and I must weep alone." It was not printed until 1914, so Poe never saw it published. (My thanks to funtrivia player snhha for bringing this to my attention). There is also another poem, entitled "Poetry" that has 2 lines. That poem goes like this: Last night, with many cares and toils oppress'd, Weary, I laid me on a couch to rest." This poem, according to www.eapoe.org, is the earliest surviving manuscript in Poe's own hand. It was written on the same page as some financial records for John Allan's (Edgar's foster father) business. To "F--S S. O--D", has 8 lines There is also another poem, simply titled "To----" that also has 8. "Silence" has 15 lines.

When was Annabel Lee first published?
1849. Annabel Lee was written the year that Poe died. It was first published in the New York "Daily Tribune" on October 9, 1849, two days after he died.

And finally: who is it thought that Poe wrote "Annabel Lee" for?
his wife. It has been speculated for years as to who Poe was writing this poem for. But most sources I've seen come to the same conclusion: it was written for his wife, Virginia, who passed away two years before. But, of course, one cannot be sure. Hope you enjoyed the quiz!
