Fun Trivia: A : Aerosmith

Special Sub-Topic: "Pump" The Album

What band member came up with the name "Pump"?

Brad Whitford. Brad Whitford came up with it but he was the only one who liked it, Steven wanted to name It "Here's Lookin Up Your Old Address", "Young Lust", or "F.I.N.E.". Joe didn't really care and no one else had any ideas. So Brad got his way and the album was named "Pump".

What song is about Steven's addiction to drugs?
Monkey On My Back. In the song Steven is singing that the "monkey on his back" was the drugs, so the song is about how not to do drugs and how badly they can affect you. Another song about how bad drugs are is "The Farm" which can be found on the album "Nine Lives" .

Who designed the cover for "Pump"?
A Fan. Yes a fan designed the cover and then sued Aerosmith after it was released, but Aerosmith won and everything was fine.

Steven was thinking of calling the album something other than "Pump"; which two songs on the album were considered?
"Young Lust", "F.I.N.E.". Steven wanted to call it either "Young Lust" or "F.I.N.E.", but none of them really wanted to call it "Pump" except Brad (because he thought of it). Joe didn't really care.

In what Canadian province did they record "Pump"?
British Columbia. They recorded it in the Rocky Mountain Recording Studio in Vancouver British Columbia; they also recorded "Permanent Vacation" and "Get A Grip" at that studio.

Which of these was never a single from "Pump"?
Monkey On My Back. "Monkey On My Back" was not a single, but it is a really great song. They didn't make it a single because it wasn't even supposed to be on the album originally, but when they finished the song they decided to put it on anyway.

At the end of "What It Takes" there's an instrumental - what's it called?
Toe Jam. The instrumental is called "Toe Jam" - I don't know where they got the name. It's played with a dulcimer just like the instrumental in "The Other Side".

Was "My Girl" a single?
    n. No, "My Girl" was not a single. It is also a good song but like "Monkey On My Back" it was never released alone. They decided that it was going to be either "My Girl" or "What It Takes" as a single, and they decided on "What It Takes".

Counting greatest hits and bootlegs (live albums), "Pump" is Aerosmith's __ album.
    15th. "Pump" is Aerosmith's 15'th album, I know this because I have all their albums: 1 - "Aerosmith", 2 - "Get Your Wings", 3 - "Toy's In The Attic", 4 - "Rocks", 5 - "Draw The Line", 6 - "Live Bootleg", 7 - "Night In The Ruts", 8 - "Greatest Hits", 9 - "Rock In A Hard Place", 10 - "Done With Mirrors", 11 - "Classics Live 1", 12 - "Classics Live 2", 13 - "Permanant Vacation", 14 - "Gems", 15 - "Pump".

How many months did it take Aerosmith to record "Pump"?
6 & six & six months & 6 months. It took them 6 months, I know this because I have "The Making Of Pump" on DVD and it goes through the six month creative period that it took them to make "Pump". Almost all of these questions can be answered by watching the video "The Making Of Pump," because it goes through the recording, the writing of the songs and putting the album together. There are also interviews.
