    Aberdeen. Aberdeen is home to many multinational oil companies. Granite used to be the prime export from Aberdeen and most of the buildings in the city centre are made from the material.

    Edinburgh. The Scottish Parliament has been built opposite Holyrood Palace. The grounds of Holyrood Palace back on to the famous Edinburgh landmark of Arthur's Seat.

    Oban. Oban is a beautiful coastal town in the north west of Scotland. The author Alan Warner is originally from Oban and has set the novels "Morvern Callar" and "The Sopranos" there.

    Cumbernauld. Cumbernauld is one of five Scottish new towns. "Gregory's Girl" starred John Gordon Sinclair, Dee Hepburn and Claire Grogan. Gregory was a teenage schoolboy who was finding out about girls, and fell in love with Dorothy when she joined the school football team.

Perth was once the capital of Scotland.

    Dumfries. Dumfries is the largest town close to the English border. The beautiful Sweetheart Abbey is only a few miles south of Dumfries.

    Glasgow. Although Edinburgh is Scotland's capital city, Glasgow is the largest city. At one point Glasgow had over one million inhabitants, but this has decreased due to people moving to new towns, boundary changes and less urban industrialization.
