Fun Trivia: O : Orbison, Roy

Special Sub-Topic: The Big O: Part 2

"A time to hear the sun go down and fade away. To see the wind just run away with yesterday. Any place for those who care, ........ is anywhere." (Missing word or words)

"Zabriski Point". This song is entitled "So Young" and was featured in the movie "Zabriskie Point", which is a location in Death Valley. It is also the name of a popular band.

"Morning comes into my room through pretty purple cutains, and looks upon a man so satisfied. I hold a woman in my arms and watch her while she's sleeping, and I know that ............"
"I'm The Man On Susies Mind". "I'm The Man On Susies Mind" was on the 1973 album "Memphis" which also features the song "Danny Boy". If you listen to only one Roy Orbison song again, make it "Danny Boy"!!

"They say we're searching for love we'll never find. They say we're foolish kids, we're ......."
"Two Of A Kind". "Two Of A Kind" appeared on Roys first album for MGM in the USA called "There Is Only One Roy Orbison"

"Time fades away and my body is laid to rest in the ground. May this comfort still my soul" Are lyrics from the song "Tennesee Owns My Soul" True or False?
    f. These lyrics are from "This Is My Land", in which Roy sings of pride in his American roots. "Tennessee Owns My Soul", however is a song about a prisoner on death row awaiting his fate.

True or False. The missing word and title of this song is "Claudette"? "Oh! ..........., They say that you're the devils pet. They say you laught when lovers cry. They say it's a kiss and then goodbye."
    f. The song is "(They Call You) Gigolette". Roy had a vocal span which covered three octaves. In the original recording of this song he reached an almost impossibly high note finale. In a later re-recording he hit the note nearly an octave higher than the original.

"The town is not the same, old friends don't know my name. Lot's of things have changed. Things seem so wrong, since I've come home"
"Time Changed Everything". All four of the above were on the 1966 album "The Orbison Way" The three incorrect answers are songs about lost love, whilst "Time Changed Everything" is a lament about a homecoming where everything is different except for the girl he left behind, who still loves him. Ahhh!

"Sixteen years ago today, early one sunday morn, just before the break of day, a cute little girl was born."
"Come Back To Me, My Love". Record producer Fred Foster liked the vocal figure of "Come Back To Me, My Love" and suggested it was transposed into a nondescript song which had been written by Roy and Joe Melson. That song was "Only The Lonely" and the rest is history!

True or false.."Look Out now, love has done you wrong. You may be weak, you may be strong" are the starting words from the song "You'll Never Be Sixteen Again"?
    t. Sadly I will never be sixteen again either. I was just about that age when this song was released on the 1966 album "The Classic Roy Orbison". Hmm.. That makes me about twenty at the time.

"Where the Nile Flows, and the moon glows, On the silent sands of an ancient land. When a dream dies and a heart cries, .......... is the word they whisper low."
"Shahdaroba". I think this must be one of the most mis-spelled song titles ever. In numerous re-issues and compilations it has been variously called "Shadahroba", "Shahdaharoba", "Shaderober" and "Shadowroba" amongst many others.

"Two wheels are turning, one girl a yearning, rig motor burning the road. I'll ride the highway, I'm going my way, I leave a story untold."
"Ride Away". "Ride Away" became an anthem for bikers and truckers in the USA and can still be heard on juke boxes in most truck stops even today.
