Washington Post. John Klein (Richard Gere) is indeed a prominent political reporter for the Washington Post. He is in position for a job with CNN. As events transpire in the film, it makes one wonder how he could keep his job.

The story takes place in a small town called Point Pleasant. Which state is Point Pleasant in?
West Virginia. While there are several Point Pleasants in the United States, this particular town is located in West Virginia. The 2000 census reported a population of 4,637. There is also a 12 foot statue of a mothman in the downtown area in addition to a mothman museum.

Gordon Smallwood. Gordon (Will Patton) is waiting for John at the door with a shotgun. It seems that Gordon is certain John has visited his home on three previous occasions. Sgt. Connie Mills (Laura Linney) arrives to resolve the situation and escorts John to a hotel. It's at this point that John realizes he is 400 miles from his destination of Richmond.

Which state does Point Pleasant share a border with on the Ohio River?
Ohio. In one scene scene Gere's character looks over a map where it distinctly provides this information. Point Pleasant is just across the river from Ohio. There is a river museum nearby as well as a Mothman Museum. The Silver Bridge traverses the river between West Virginia and Ohio.

John makes amends with Gordon after their first less than cordial meeting. Later, Gordon shares with John what he has heard from a mysterious source in the sink. "Denver 9 ..." What event does this ultimately refer to?
airline crash. Gordon reports that he heard a voice from the sink say "Do not be afraid. Denver 9. 99 will die." Later, in a diner, a television news story reports that Domain Air Flight out of Denver has crashed. All 99 passengers and crew members are believed to have died.

Gordon claims to have met the source of the mysterious voice from his sink. What is the name of this entity?
Indrid Cold. The entity tells Gordon that his name is Indrid Cold. "Gordon" calls John and says that Indrid is with him. John asks to speak with Indrid. Indrid appears to be omniscient, knowing everything about John and precisely what he is doing during their phone conversation.

Alexander Leek. John finds the reclusive Dr. Leek who has done extensive research on the Mothman phenomenon. John Keel is the author of the book "The Mothman Prophecies," upon which the film is based. Jeff Wamsley is the owner of the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant.

John deciphers a phone message purportedly from Indrid about a tragedy on the Ohio River. What does John interpret this to mean?
an accident at the chemical plant. John believes that something will happen at the chemical plant, based on his intuition and the colors that Gordon has reported seeing hovering over the plant. "Great tragedy on the River Ohio".

John is drawn back to Point Pleasant after a phone call from Connie. The forecast of something disastrous to happen there is about to occur. A great tragedy on the Ohio River ... What is it?
bridge collapse. There is a traffic jam on the Silver Bridge on that chilly Christmas Eve. The stress on the bridge causes it to collapse. Connie has fallen in the river with her police cruiser. John goes into the river after her and manages to pull her to the surface. John then asks the rescue worker if the search has been completed. He says there have been 36 fatalities. "Wake up 37." Connie would have been the 37th victim. On December 15th, 1967, the real Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant collapsed and 46 deaths were reported. Of course, the film was set in the present instead of the 1960s. There is a wealth of literature and readings about the mothman and similar entities on the internet if you find this interesting. I hope that you enjoyed this quiz.
