Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is another name for a 10 dollar bill?

Answer: sawbuck

A one dollar bill is called a single, a 10 is a sawbuck, and a 20 is a double sawbuck.
2. Which system of measurement is based on the number 10?

Answer: metric

The metric system, used primarily in Europe, is based on base 10.
3. Is there a billiards game with ten balls?

Answer: Yes

The game is called 10-ball, and played exactly like 9-ball, but with the 10 ball as well. It's set up like 8-ball without the 11-15 balls. Member tinolb69 brings up a good point; there are 10 balls on a pool table when beginning a 9-ball game. Thanks for the suggestion!
4. How many of the big sports leagues in the USA (MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL) play into a 10th (inning, quarter, period) without it going into extras?

Answer: none

Baseball stops at 9 if there's not a tie, hockey plays 3, basketball and football play 4. Hockey plays 4 if there is a tie (excluding playoffs), and football plays 5 (excluding playoffs). Basketball and baseball can go into a 10th inning or period provided the score is tied, but it's not often a basketball game goes 6 overtime periods.
5. Which President is on the 10-dollar bill?

Answer: None

When was Alexander Hamilton President of the United States?
6. Which President is on the 10-cent piece?

Answer: Franklin Roosevelt

Washington is on the 25-cent piece, Lincoln on the one-cent piece, Kennedy on the 50-cent and dollar coins, and FDR is on the dime.
7. What is another name for a 10-sided polygon?

Answer: decagon

At one time, DECember was the tenth month, and February was the twelfth. That is why the extra day is added to February, because it was added to the end of the year.
8. Who was the 10th President of the United States?

Answer: John Tyler

James Polk was the tenth elected, but John Tyler was the tenth President, after William Harrison died from pneumonia.
9. Which was the tenth state to enter the Union?

Answer: Virginia

Virginia was the tenth state to enter the Union on June 25, 1788. All choices ratified the Constitution in 1788.
10. Which of the following is the traditional tenth anniversary gift?

Answer: tin

The "modern" gift for a tenth anniversary is the diamond jewelry, but I asked for the traditional, which is tin.
