Special Sub-Topic: The U.S. Chemical Corps

What two types of chemical agents are there?

persistent and non-persistent. Chemical agents are catagorized into two types of agents: persistent and non-persistent. The persistency of a chemical agent relates to how long the agent remains a hazard. Non-persistent agents can disepate in as soon as one hour and persistent agents can remain a hazard for as long as two weeks.

What piece of equipment measures what dose rate a soldier is being exposed to?
AN/VDR 2. The AN/VDR 2 measures the radiation a soldier is being exposed to in centigray (cGy). Dose rate means how much radiation a soldier is exposed based on cGy per hour. The higher the dose rate the more radiation the soldier is exposed to if he/she stays in the area.

What are the three levels of decontamination?
immediate, operational and thorough. Immediate decon is when a soldier decontaminates himself/herself and individual equipment. An operational decon consists of a vehicle spraydown and a MOPP gear exchange. A thorough decon consists of a detailed equipment decon and detailed troop decon.

What does the term MOPP stand for?
Mission Oriented Protective Posture. Mission Oriented Protective Posture gear consists of a protective mask, a BDO (battle dress overgarment) or J-list suit, protective overboots and protective gloves.

What catagory of chemical agent is Sarin (GB)?
Nerve. Sarin is a nerve agent. It is one of the G series nerve agents. GA is Tabun, Sarin is GB and Soman is GD. Nerve agents affect the body's nervous system. It can affect the body's ability to breath.

What are the three fundamentals of Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear defense?
Contamination avoidance, Protection and Decontamination. The US Army has published field manuals on these fundamentals: FM 3-3 NBC Contamination Avoidance, FM 3-4 NBC Protection and FM 3-5 NBC Decontamination.

The best decontamination solution is a combination of a DS2 slurry and STB (Super Topical Bleach).
    f. This is an absolute no-no. The mixing of these two decontaminants will ignite a fire. DS2 is a powdered decontaminant that when mixed with water creates a slurry. STB is a liquid that is very similiar to Clorox bleach.

What are the three types of smoke screens?
Haze, Curtain and Blanket. Chemical soldiers are responsible for emplacing smoke on the battlefield. Dragon soldiers use smoke generators mounted on High Mobility, Multiple-purpose Wheeled Vehicles (Hum-Vee) and M113 Armored Personnel Carriers.

Which one of the following is not classified as a biological agent?
Tabun. Tabun is a "G" series Nerve agent. Anthrax spores affect the breathing of a victim. Riccin is a toxin derived from castor beans. Rickettsias are parasitic microorganisms like Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

Which one of the following pieces of chemical equipment will not detect chemical agents?
M12A1 PDDE. M12A1 Power Driven Decontamination Equipment does not detect chemical agents. It a truck mounted decontamination device with a heater, a pump unit and a mixing tank. It has the capabilty to run two hoses at the same time.
