Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Today I have gathered together my nearest and dearest, my sixteen nieces and nephews." Who was told to sit down after expressing her surprise at this statement?

Answer: Grace Windsor Wexler

Grace spent a lot of her time wondering how the other heirs were related to her Uncle Sam. When she heard that they were all his "nieces and nephews" she was taken aback. She couldn't imagine everyone having the same connection with him as she did.
2. "I, Samuel W. Westing, hereby swear that I did not die of natural causes..." But, he was not dead. How old was Sam Westing when he actually died?

Answer: 85

While everyone was under the impression that he either lay dead on an oriental rug in his house, that he was dead when they saw his body at the reading of the will, or that he died when he was revealed to be Sandy McSouthers, no one but the winner of the game knew when his time truly came.
3. "The heir who wins the windfall will be the one who finds the..." The phrase was unfinished in the will but Turtle interpreted it later, finishing it with what word?

Answer: fourth

Fourth was the word starting the next section but no one could link this because as Ed Plum was reading the will, at this part Sandy shouted "ashes".
4. "Hail to thee, O land of opportunity! You have made me, the son of poor immigrants..." Upon finishing his thanks, which word did Sam Westing not use to describe himself?

Answer: well-liked

Sam Westing was never really well-liked. Some people held personal grudges or just would rather have not been in his company. He became sad and lonely after his daughter, Violet, killed herself.

Answer: Judge J.J. Ford

A letter was handed to J.J. Ford. She had previously doubted her former mentor's sanity and thus received this letter proving he was sane.

From sea to shining sea!"
11. "___________ you say? Death is ___________ yet makes way for the living. Life, too, is ____________ unless you know who you are, what you want, and which way the wind blows." What is the missing word(s)?

12. "Table by table, each pair will be called to give one, and only one, answer." What was table 7's answer?

13. "Okay, folks, there will be a short break before the big winner is announced." Who was told to go to the kitchen for refreshments?

Answer: Berthe Crow

14. "Go directly to the library. Do not pass ______." What is the missing word(s)?

None of them were right. Sam Westing gave five minutes to give figure out the game and give their final answers. This is when the heirs started working together. They shared all of their clues and revealed the missing pieces of the puzzle, BERTHE ERICA CROW.
16. "So hurry, hurry, hurry, step right up and collect your prize. The lawyer will count off five minutes. Good luck and a happy Fourth of July." Why did the heirs find this section odd?

Answer: 30 thousand

Crow was given the two $10,000 checks that J.J. Ford signed over to Sandy and she was given the $10,000 check forfeited by Jake Wexler and Madame Sun Lin Hoo.
19. After the will had been read, J.J. Ford realized they had all lost the game. Who actually went on to win the Westing Game?
