Special Sub-Topic: "Tissues"
What kind of infestation is harassing the Barones in this episode?
Ant. Debra does not want to cook because of the ants and decides that the family is going to Marco's for dinner instead. Raymond doesn't like bringing the kids out to eat because of the way they act, so he objects. Debra ignores his objection. This is what sparks the argument when they return from dinner.
Before leaving for dinner, Debra tells Marie that she will get to the dishes later. Debra does not hear her response as she leaves. What does Marie say?
That even the infestation is laughing at that statement. Marie says, "She'll get to them later. Even the ants are laughing." Obviously, Marie does not think that Debra will ever get to the dishes. Knowing Marie, she probably does the dishes while the Barones are out.
What do the Barone children find in the car that annoys their parents?
Whistles. Ally, Michael, and Geoffrey run into the house with whistles, making noise. Raymond says that he thought that things couldn't have been louder - then the kids find the whistles.
Raymond begins listing things that Debra will not let him have a say in. One of those things is the curtains. Why does Raymond hate the curtains in the kitchen?
They are one pattern, but the walls are a different pattern.. Raymond tells Debra that he hates the curtains. She responds that he never complained in the store. Raymond insists that he said, 'Really, those curtains?' as a hint. Debra thinks that a response like that is not helpful to her.
When Raymond returns from the grocery store, what does he not come back with?
A package of pens with red ink. Raymond says he thinks that the twins would like the box-kite kits, and that they are bigger then the ones that the Parkers have. Marie and Debra love Ally's new purple notebook. Raymond figures that buying the ant spray means that they can cancel the exterminator they hired. Raymond also returns with milk, travel brochures and ten boxes of tissues.
Why does Robert want Marie to bring a sandwich to Frank?
Because Frank's stomach makes a noise he heard in the woods once. Marie comes to Raymond and Debra's house with sandwiches, but she gets sidetracked watching Raymond unpack what he bought. Robert walks in and tells Marie to give Frank a sandwich. However, Robert also gets sidetracked when Raymond freaks out and doesn't bring Frank his sandwich. Once Frank's show is over, he goes into the kitchen to get it himself.
Why does Raymond begin freaking out on the family?
Because Debra does not like his tissues. After hearing from Debra that she does not like the tissues, Raymond says that he will not back down on the issue. Robert responds with, "Now we have a show." He sits down at the kitchen table to watch.
What does Raymond say to Marie and Debra that offends them?
That they are alike. Raymond tells Debra and Marie that they are alike because Marie did not let him make decisions growing up, and Debra does not let him make decisions now. Marie and Debra respond with an annoyed, "Hey!".
Why does Frank dislike the tissues that Raymond purchased?
They are too greasy.. Frank says that the tissues stink. When Raymond yells at him, Frank says that they are too greasy - "You go to blow your nose and you think you did it already." Raymond says, "Knowing you, you probably did." He most likely said this to be funny, or rude, but it just comes off as foolish.
Robert tries to reason with Raymond about why the tissues were on sale. What is NOT a reason that he lists?
They are old.. Since Raymond says that the tissues were on sale and came with an in-store coupon as well, it is obvious that no one was buying them. Robert asks Raymond why he thinks they were on sale. He lists all of the above except for 'they are old'. His comments finally send Raymond over the edge.
What does Marie say about tissues?
They are one of the most important decisions to make regarding decor.. When Marie says that tissues are very important, Raymond points out that they are used for people to blow their noses. Marie insists that the correct box of tissues will invite a person to blow their nose. Raymond looks at her like she has three heads.
What does Robert call Raymond that makes him throw everyone out of the house?
Mr. Bumble Puss. Robert says that the only person who wanted to buy the tissues is "Mr. Bumble Puss". He then clarifies by handing Raymond the tissues and saying, "That's you." This prompts Raymond to get fed up and kick everyone out of the house. Debra mentions that they were supposed to go over to Marie's for dinner that night, but that it might not happen...thanks to Raymond.
When Raymond tries to make dinner for himself, what happens?
He leaves the stove unattended and the tissues catch on fire.. Raymond answers the ringing phone in the kitchen. Gianni is on the other end, asking if Raymond can go golfing the next day. When Gianni says that he thinks it is going to snow, Raymond goes out to check the sky. While they argue, the flames on the stove spreads away to the tissues, and catch the curtains on fire.
What is wrong with the hose that Raymond tries to use?
It is too short.. Debra mentions the hose in the beginning of the episode. While attempting to put out the kitchen fire, Raymond gets the hose. It's too short and pulls him back. He tries to spray into the kitchen anyway, by changing the setting on the nozzle and using his thumb to angle it. He only succeeds in getting the living room wet. Debra comes downstairs and Raymond alerts her to the fire. Her quick thinking leads her to get the fire extinguisher from under the sink and save the house.
What decision is Raymond attempting to help Debra with at the end of the episode?
Picking out new curtains. An insurance agent is helping the Barones fix the kitchen. When he goes out to get paint samples for the kitchen, he gives Debra a book of curtain samples. Raymond moves closer to her to look them over. Debra gives him a warning look and he goes back to where he was.
