Who found Tutankhamun's tomb?

    Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon. Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon stumbled upon Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. Lord Carnarvon unfortunately died before the excavation was completed. Howard Carter died in his Kensington home in 1939.

What was Tutankhamun's original name?
    Tutankhaten. When Tutankhamun was born he was given the name Tutankhaten because of the blind faith of his father, Akhenaten, in the 'Aten'. He incorporated it in his son's name.

What does Tutankhamun mean?
    'Living image of Amun'. The name chosen for the Pharaoh is always unique to each ruler. As Tutankhamun changed back to the old polytheistic religion he brought back Amun. In so doing, he changed his name to what we know it as today, Tutankhamin.

Where was Tutankhamun presumably born?
    Akhetaten. Akhenaten, whilst Pharaoh, founded a new capital, Akhetaten. and this is where Tutankhamun was born and spent his childhood. In tomb reliefs Tutankhamun is shown growing up as a young prince.

    c. 1342 BC. Egyptologists can only guess as to when Tutankhamun was born. No written evidence as to his actual birth date has been found.

When was Tutankhamun's burial chamber opened?
    February 1923. The burial chamber of Tutnkahmun's tomb was opened for the very first time in over 3,000 years. The original ropes that held it together were still intact.

Since 2005 what has been the preferred explanation of the cause of Tutankhamun's death?
    Fatal injury to the left leg. Since 2005 Egyptologists have stated this as their preferred theory for Tutankhamun's death. It happened when Tutankhamun fell off his chariot and smashed his knee on the ground, splitting the skin and knee cap, leaving arteries exposed. Fever would have set in and caused gangrene, and infection.

Who was Tutankhamun's consort?
    Ankhesenamun. Tutankhamun married his half sister, Ankhesenamun. They had two children, both were girls but unfortuantly they died at birth.

What was the age that Tutankhamun succeeded the throne and at what age did he die?
    9 - 18. Tutankhamun was 9 when he came to power. One of the youngest pharaohs in Ancient Egyptian history, he died at the age of 18 due to a chariot accident.

What happened after the death of Tutankhamun?
    Every trace of Tutankhamun was erased. After his death every trace of Tutankhamun's reign and Akhenaten's reign was destroyed as the citizens did not like the way they ran the country.
