The first time we see the X-Men, there are new recruits. Who are they?

Storm, Colossus, and Beast. When we first see the X-Men, Cyclops is about ready to take his three new recruits (Storm, Colossus, and Beast) to meet the Professor. Now, if you know anything about the original "X-Men", you know Marvel Girl was one of the first five recruits. Unfortunately, that doesn't really help, as so was Beast. But later on in this issue, Cyclops tells the three newbies that he hopes they're good fighters, as he and Marvel Girl can't fight an enemy alone. This suggests that Marvel Girl is already an X-Men. (This is confirmed in later issues.)

When the X-Men do see Professor Xavier, what room is he in?

The Library. I think Beast says what was on all our minds: "Is a room still a library if it doesn't have any books?" Professor then goes on to explain how he reads the minds of his favorite authors as they write. Kind of creepy.

Professor tells the new recruits the story of how he was crippled. How does it happen?

Magneto shot a metal spear through his back. Professor explains to the new recruits why he and Magneto are no longer working together. Through the course of his explanation, we are shown an image of Professor with a metal spear through his back. Ouch!

The X-Men are sent to rescue a runaway mutant, who is later known as Iceman. Which of our heroes finds him first?

Beast. Professor sends the X-Men to find a fifteen-year-old mutant later know as Iceman. Cyclops stresses the need for speed; he doesn't want the Sentinels to find the boy first. Beast then chimes in, saying "the barbecue's off," as he has just spotted Iceman on a Greyhound bus.

Shortly after the X-Men's battle with the Sentinels, we encounter the mutant known as Wolverine. Why does he first join the X-Men?

He is sent to kill Xavier. We see Magneto, who is quite disappointed that Xavier is alive. He then goes on to tell Toad that he needs an assassin, and to tell Wolverine he has an assignment. Later on we see Magneto actually giving Wolverine his orders.

After the debacle rescuing Wolverine, the X-Men are sent to Croatia to rescue someone. Who is this person in need of rescue?

The President's daughter. Marvel Girl, Cyclops, Beast, and Wolverine are training when Iceman runs in, telling everyone to turn on the news. It seems that Magneto has kidnapped the President's daughter. Being the heroes that they are, the X-Men are off on another rescue mission.

During the mission in Croatia, two X-Men are believed dead at one point or another. Who are they?

Beast and Cyclops. During the course of the rescue, Beast is crushed by a falling wall, and Storm believes him dead. Cyclops is trying to get the facts straight, and is suddenly shot in the chest. Iceman freaks, saying that he never trained for a mission where Cyclops was dead. Cyclops then tells Iceman to relax, as he was wearing kevlar. Beast is later rushed to the mansion and saved by multiple organ transplants performed by Marvel Girl and Professor Xavier.

Because of one X-Man's near-death experience, a teamate leaves for the Savage Land. Which X-Man does this?

Cyclops. Cyclops is seen arguing with the Professor about why they should negotiate and deal with the human race, the race that put Beast in a coma. After a heated discussion, Cyclops storms out, and takes the Blackbird to the Savage Land.

Beast wakes up and finds he has blue hair. Where did this color change come from?

The transplant procedure. Earlier, Jean is telling Wolverine about the transplant procedure, saying that the only recorded side effect was the patient's hair turning blue. Of course, she wasn't worried, because that happened less than half of the time. Oops.

During the battle with Magneto and the Sentinels at the end of the issue, who has been given leadership of the X-Men?

Marvel Girl. We jump to the Sentinels Magneto reprogrammed attacking Washington DC. It is then that we see Marvel Girl shouting orders and encouraging the other X-Men, a task that usually belongs to Cyclops. Thank you very much for taking my first quiz!
