Fun Trivia: B : Bye Bye Birdie

Special Sub-Topic: We Love You, Conrad!

What was Albert's favorite book while in college at NYU?

Little Women. "I'm ruined in show business!"

In scene 2 we are introduced to the teens of Sweet Apple, Ohio in "The Telephone Hour". Who is the first voice that we hear?
Helen. Helen: "Hi Nancy!" Nancy: "Hi Helen!" Helen: "What's the story morning, glory?" Nancy: "What's the tale, nightingale?" Helen: "Have you heard about Hugo and Kim?" Then we hear Margie and Alice.

According to the original script, which of these clothing items does Kim NOT put on during "How Lovely To Be A Woman"?
fuzzy slippers. Although she does put on fuzzy slippers, she does so after the song, while the rest of the items go on during the song.

Fill in the blank from "Put On A Happy Face": "I knew a girl so gloomy, she'd never laugh or sing. She didn't listen to me, now she's a ____________________."
mean old thing. "Just put on a happy face!" Probably the most famous song from the play.

Who is Lou?
a wire-haired terrier. Almaelou was the name of the record company that Albert started. It was named for himself, his mother (Mae), and their dog (now deceased) Lou. He was hit by a beer truck. Memorable line: Mae: "Lou! Where are you Lou? Struck down by a beverage that I consumed faithfully for 32 years!"

What does Conrad repeatedly call Harry MacAfee?
Fats. "Hiya Fats!" This follows a great part where Mr. MacAfee tries to eat breakfast while everything in front of him is being cleared away.

Who is Maude?
The manager of Maude's Roadside Retreat. Charles Maude owns the bar where Hugo tries to get drunk, and where the ever-famous shriner scene takes place. The secretary's name is Gloria Rasputin, the mayor's wife's name is Edna, and we never hear Mrs. Merkle's first name.

What does Hugo get "drunk" on?
milk. Mrs. Macafee: "Hugo F. Peabody what have you been drinking?" Hugo: "Milk. But it worked!" He's upset because Kim ran off with Conrad Birdie

Rosie is from Mexico.
    f. "I'm just a Spanish tamale according to Mae. Just off the boat from the tropics far far away. Which is kind of funny, since I come from romantic, exotic, Pittsburgh, PA!" from "Spanish Rose". I've also heard the last part as Allentown, PA.

When we see the train leave at the end of the play, who is on it?
Conrad and Mae. Mae and Conrad leave, signifying that Albert has sent them both out of his life once and for all. After that everything is "Rosie" once again! Well now that I've gotten all that information out of me I feel better. Hope you enjoyed the quiz!
