Green Day's "Basket Case"?
    "Dookie". Green Day's entire "Dookie" album was recorded in less than a week. "Dookie" spawned several hits, including "When I Come Around", "She", and "Longview".

Run-D.M.C.'s "Mary, Mary"?
    "Tougher Than Leather". All three members of Run-D.M.C. were from Hollis, Queens, in New York City.

No Doubt's "Hella Good"?
    "Rock Steady". The "Sunday Morning" video features Gwen Stefani's brother (and No Doubt co-founder) Eric, as well as her grandfather. The Specials' Terry Hall is also in the video.

The Carpenters' "We've Only Just Begun"?
    "Close to You". Richard and Karen Carpenter were part of a trio that won a Battle of the Bands contest in California, which lead to their contract with RCA. The third member of the group, Wes Jacobs, left in 1968, prompting Karen and Richard to find success without him.

The Mamas and the Papas' "Monday, Monday"?
    "If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears". Contrary to popular urban legend, Mama Cass did not die from choking on a ham sandwhich. Cass had a heart condition (exacerbated by her fluctuating weight) that eventually claimed her life.

Metallica's "Unforgiven"?
    "Metallica". Metallica was recently honored as one of MTV's Icons. They joined Janet Jackson and Aerosmith as the third honoree.

Jennifer Lopez's "If You Had My Love"?
    "On the 6". "On the 6" is a reference to the #6 New York City subway line that Lopez used to travel on to get from the Bronx to Manhattan.

The Bee Gee's "Tragedy"?
    "Spirits Having Flown". The Bee Gees are rock's most commercially successful brother act.

Whitney Houston's "So Emotional"?
    "Whitney". Whitney Houston was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey.

Pink Floyd's "Us and Them"?
    "Dark Side of the Moon". Legend has it that Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" bears an eerie synchronocity to "The Wizard of Oz". If you begin the movie and album at the same time, several dozen coincidences occur between the music and the movie's plot. Doubtful? Try it for yourself!

    "Come On Over". "Come on Over" has sold over 19 million copies in the US alone.

    "The Joshua Tree". In 2003, U2's Bono was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his various efforts as a fundraiser for Third World problems.

    "Speaking in Tongues". The Talking Heads were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

TLC's "No Scrubs"?
    "Fanmail". "No Scrubs" topped the Billboard singles chart for four weeks in 1999.
