Special Sub-Topic: Who Was Supposed To Be In It?!

Rick in "Casablanca":

Ronald Reagan. When the first press releases came out about the movie going into production, he was announced as the star. He took the screen test, but the part, of course, went to Humphrey Bogart.

Who was supposed to play the Tin Man in "The Wizard Of Oz":
Buddy Ebsen. He originally started in that role, but he had an allergic reaction to the silver makeup and was replaced with Jack Haley. Ebson was best known as Jed on "The Beverly Hillbillies" and then as Barnaby Jones.

The Wizard in "The Wizard Of Oz":
WC Fields. It was offered to him but he turned it down (he was infamous for hating to work with "dogs and kids"!). It was then played by Frank Morgan.

Harold Hill in "The Music Man":
Frank Sinatra. The producers didn't feel the Broadway star Robert Preston had enough name recognition, but the writer Meredith Wilson refused to release the rights unless they cast him.

Reggie Hammond in "48 Hours":
Robert Mitchum. He turned the role down, and the role of the wise cracking con was then offered to Murphy. Nolte played the cop who enlists his help.

Axel Foley in "Beverly Hills Cop":
Sylvester Stallone. Murphy lucks out again, this time playing a wisecracking cop, after Stallone had to drop out of the film.

Who was supposed to play Delores Van Cartier / Sister Mary Clarence in "Sister Act"?
Bette Midler. Due to other commitments, she had to drop out and Goldberg was asked to play the gun moll who goes into hiding as a singing nun.

Al Lewis in "The Sunshine Boys":
Jack Benny. He passed away before shooting began and the part of the aging vaudevilian went to George Burns, who won an Oscar for it. Matthau played his feuding partner (together they were "Lewis & Clarke").

Victor Ziegler in "Eyes Wide Shut":
Harvey Keitel. He originally played this character, but had many clashes with director Stanley Kubrick (who died before the film came out). He was replaced by actor/director Pollack. Kidman's husband Tom Cruise played her husband and fellow marriage counselor in the film.

Miriam Nathanson in "Eyes Wide Shut":
Jennifer Jason Leigh. She originally played this character, but had to leave as she couldn't get time away from her film "existanZ". The part then went to Marie Richardson.
