September 11 game quiz
"The tragedy of September 11, 2001 changed America, if not the world. What do you really know about it?"

15 Points Per Correct Answer - No time limit

1. Who has the authority to order commercial aircraft to be intercepted by military jets?
No one, it is an automatic response which is always in effect and adhered to
The President and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces
    Only the President
The President and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces and the Commander of NORAD

2. How many of the 19 hijackers' names appeared on the published passenger lists of the 4 aircraft?
    19
    0
    16
    12

3. How did the FBI distinguish between "regular," "innocent" Muslim passengers and Muslim hijackers on those flights?
The hijackers' leader, Mohamed Atta, addressed a note to all the others by name when he wrote "The time of fun and waste is gone" and other such un-Muslim-like phrases.
Anyone with a Muslim-sounding name obviously was not an "innocent passenger".
The FBI has never explained this.
The FBI had their names all along and had been keeping track of them; that is how they could announce the names so quickly (with pictures).

4. What was the passport the FBI claimed it found some blocks from the World Trade Center, "a few" days after the disaster, and which it claimed belonged to one of the hijackers?
It was burned around the edges and the name obscured; a photo appeared on the front page of the NY Times the next week.
That belonged to Atta's right-hand man, Ziad Jarrahi.
When asked, the FBI has only responded that that information is "part of the investigation" and cannot be released "yet".
That was just a rumor; the FBI never made such a claim.

5. What information was learned from the 8 nearly-indestructible Black Boxes from the 3 crash centers?
It is not clear how many were recovered reasonably intact, but no data (except voice transcripts from flight 93) obtained has been released for "security" reasons
3 boxes survived, but most data was lost in the Pentagon recorder and the Pennsylvania ones had only what was already known (telemetry) and the sound of scuffling in the cabin (voice).
The WTC boxes were melted in the 800C degree heat and the Pentagon boxes were vaporized just like the plane itself (almost no wreckage) and the ones in Pennsylvania must have been destroyed by the steep angle of the crash.
4 black boxes survived (Pentagon and Pennsylvania) but no data has been released as was done in every other previous crash.

6. When asked if he "knew about New York" after the first crash, this man replied he would have a statement about it later. He also claimed, after the fact, to have seen the first crash happen "live" on TV, although no one saw the first crash live.
George W. Bush, President of the United States
    Secretary of State Colin Powell
    Vice President Dick Cheney
George H. W. Bush, former President of the United States. (at the White House)

7. Who signed an Executive Order (No. 01-261) declaring a "state of emergency" (illegally naming the National Guard as the arm of enforcement) provisionally until the end of June of 2003 on September 7th of 2001?
    Gray Davis, Governor of California
    no one
    Jeb Bush, Governor of Florida
    Rudy Giuliani, Mayor of NYC

8. Flight 77 hit the Pentagon at 9:39 am, some 40 minutes after it was known positively to be "off course" and headed back toward the restricted airspace of Washington D. C., which is protected at all times as Standard Operating Procedure by fighters from Andrews Air Force Base. How far from the Pentagon is Andrews AFB 'as the jet flies'?
    60 minutes
    10 minutes
    45 minutes
    20 minutes

9. The second WTC tower was struck 20 minutes after the first. Planes from McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey could have supposedly intercepted the second plane, needing only 7 minutes to reach lower Manhatten. What reason did Major General Richard A. Mentemeyer, Commander of the 305th Air Mobility Wing, give for the fatal delay in following this normal procedure?
They didn't expect another plane, so no planes were sent as it was already too late.
They were not informed by either the Pentagon, the FAA or NORAD --- all of whom monitor everything in the air at all times --- that any planes had been hijacked or were off course.
They had no planes standing by, as they normally would have, but the reason for this is not clear.
    No reason was given.

    Building 13

12. Steel melts at 1538 degrees Celsius (2800 F). If a jet fuel fire could reach this temperature within a highrise structure such as the WTC towers, it would consume itself in a very few minutes. The first tower to be hit collapsed after 104 minutes, although flames had been reduced only to a smudgy smoke after the first 20 minutes. How long before the 2nd tower collapsed after it was hit (at an oblique angle, spilling much of its fuel outside as a fireball in the air)?

    106 minutes
    156 minutes
    62 minutes

21. Quite soon after the attacks we got our first look at the hijackers in action as Atta and Abdul Aziz Al-Omari are shown rushing through a Maine airport to catch their flight so that they won't miss their Logan flight in Boston so they can hit the WTC. Every airport, of course, has cameras from the parking lots to the boarding gates. How many of the dozens and dozens of other shots that must exist of the other hijackers have been shown to the public?
LIFE Magazine did a spead of pictures in its November 31st issue featuring 14 of the hijackers as they moved through the various airports on their way to their infamous destinies.
The hijackers planned this attack for years and knew how to avoid appearing in any recognizable way on those cameras, plus it is known that they had some inside help among the airports' security staffs.
The government (FBI) had some pictures up on their web site for a time before mid-2002, but they were withdrawn because some appear to conflict with the pictures shown on the 19 passport photos, and 5 or 6 of those photos are supposedly of Saudi airline p
