Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Will a light bulb that is part of a complete circuit light up?

Answer: Yes

Complete circuits light when everything is attached, and there are no breaks.
2. An open circuit is a type of circuit.

Answer: True

Some more types of circuits are short, control, power, branch, dedicated, feeder, and transmission circuits.
3. A series circuit has one path from the source and back to the source again.

Answer: True

An example of the series circuit is a string of Christmas lights, or at least those around in the last century. If you break the circuit's path at any point, it is not a complete circuit and all the lights will stop working.
4. A parallel circuit has one path to the source and back to the source.

Answer: False

In a parallel circuit each light has its own path, and there are always more than two. The removal of one of the bulbs doesn't affect any of the other bulbs at all.
5. In a series circuit, the already existing lightbulb dims when another light bulb is added.

Answer: True

The voltage drops in series circuits to distribute the power evenly between all the light bulbs. Parallel circuits are the opposite. Since each light bulb has its own path, the light bulbs do not need to share all the voltage between them, like with series circuits.
6. Will a broken circuit light up?

Answer: No

Broken circuits are the opposite of complete circuits.
7. If you took out one bulb on a series circuit, the rest of the bulbs will keep shining.

Answer: No

When you take out a light bulb on a series circuit, you are breaking the circuit. Everything needs to be connected, and by taking out that light bulb, you are breaking the chain.
8. If you unscrew one of the light bulbs in a parallel circuit, the rest will stop lighting.

Answer: False

Since each light bulb (or dry cell) has its own individual path, the rest will not be affected by one light bulb.
9. Impure graphite is a conductor of electricity.

Answer: True

Some other conductors are metals, water, and the human body. Conductors are the opposite of insulators.
10. Glass is a conductor of electricity.

Answer: False

Glass is an insulator of electricity. Some other insulators are: plastics, styrofoam, paper, rubber, and dry air. Insulators are the opposites of conductors.
