1. Nine-letter words are not common in Scrabble, even at the highest level. Without having any statistics to back me up, I would imagine that they would constitute less than one percent of all words played.

Your challenge here is to solve- 'Sold learning'.

2. As can be imagined, because of the sheer length, many niners would have to incorporate an 'S'.

These words both use two esses- 'Army ranks with distinction'.

3. In 1974 a British magazine held a competition to find the highest scoring game. Ron Jerome submitted an entry that included a score of 1539 for a single word!

This competition is slightly easier- 'Easterners kin'.

4. This question uses a pair of esses (the plural of 'S')- 'Occupants lethargy'.

5. When Alfred Butts invented the game back in the 1940s, he worked out the letter distribution by counting letters in the 'New York Times' and other newspapers. This story is only partly true, as the letter 'S' should proportionally show up more times that the four tiles that are in the game.

10. This one is tough, so as a further hint I will reveal that the last three letters of each word are 'N', 'A' and 'I', but not in that order.

'Establish religious fanatic'.
