Intro to Prestige

Prestige: What is This? Your Prestige Ideas Ladders Ranks & Perks
FunTrivia Prestige: Introduction

The traditional FunTrivia "level system" slowly over the past 20 years became inadequate. It didn't properly reward minibadge wins, tier gains, authoring, and other things. Worst of all, at high levels it was just boooooring! We thought... there has got to be a better way! And thus the prestige system was born. With the new prestige system, levels are gone, and you can now do all sorts of varied things around FunTrivia to advance your rank, compete with other players, and earn some very cool perks!

New players slowly unlock the site one feature at a time, discovering new things all the time, while players who have been around for decades can now experience advancement doing what they most LIKE doing.

Ranks

As you gain prestige, you will gain ranks. Each rank has a title ("Senior Prodigy") and an identifier ("10d"). The identifiers help you know what ranks are higher/more advanced than others, and start at "1a" (for new players) and go up to a theoretical 25e. So: 1a,1b,2a,2b... Each time you increase rank you will often gain access to new perks and abilities on the site. There will always be cool things to work towards.

Prestige's Components

Prestige is earned in 6 distinct buckets: Challenges, Points, Team Points, Authoring, Exploration, and Bonuses. We then simply add up the values in each of these buckets to come up with your Prestige Score. Increase your prestige enough and you get a new rank and new perks.

1. Challenges: Each FunTrivia challenge has a prestige value associated with it. Complete the challenge and you gain the prestige listed. It's that simple. For those challenges that have tiers (that is, can be won up to 7 different times), you earn the prestige value each time you gain a new tier. This challenge prestige bucket has the greatest weighting of the six prestige categories, and is designed to make up at least 50% of an average player's prestige score.

2. FunTrivia Points: Points are earned by playing quizzes, games, completing daily challenges, and other various ways. As you earn FunTrivia points, you will accumulate some prestige in your point prestige bucket. The more points you earn the more prestige you will get. Note however that the rate at which you accumulate point prestige slows down the more points you earn.

3. Team Points: You can earn team points by joining a team, playing the Team Heroes game, and participating each week in games that your team is competing in. Like points above, there are diminishing returns to team point prestige over time.

4. Authoring: Author quizzes, crosswords, or submit single questions and you can gain some authoring prestige. This also has dimishing returns to prestige over time. Your very first contributions will earn 3 prestige each, but after a few hundred quiz submissions you may be earning 1 prestige per additional contribution. As you can see, we value balance over all 6 buckets. We don't want to over-compensate one player dominating a single bucket and ignoring the rest!

5. Exploration: You will earn exploration prestige just by playing a wide variety of games on the site. You never know when a point will show up! The idea behind this category is to reward branching out and exploring the corners of our site. Half the battle in life is just showing up, right? Note that these too have diminishing returns for any given game. The more you play, say, Who's the Smartest, the fewer prestige it will produce for you. Some games will only give exploration prestige after you earn a corresponding perk.

6. Bonuses: These are typically event-based bonuses that will pop up over time. For example, if you participate in the Author Central weekly painting game, you can earn 1 to 2 prestige each month there. Keep an eye out for other bonus opportunities!
