Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Monopoly

Created by Charles Darrow and released by Parker Brothers, this is a real estate game, where one can buy and improve properties and charge rent for the use of them. The game can be played by two to eight players, on a square board with 40 squares each, using two dice to move around it.
The North American version uses the streets of Atlantic City, NJ. The British version uses London for naming the various property sites.
2. Totopoly

Designed by Walter Lee and released by Waddingtons in 1938, this is a horse racing game that it is played in three distinct stages and on two separate boards. The object of the game is to be the owner of the horse that wins the race.
The game is based on the "Lincolnshire Handicap" and the names of the horses are past winners of the race between the years 1926 to 1937, both inclusive.
3. Cluedo (Clue)

Cluedo (Clue in North America) was designed by Anthony E. Pratt and released by Waddingtons in 1949. The object of the game is to reveal the murderer of Mr. Black, the room in which the crime took place and the weapon used. There are six suspects, six weapons and nine rooms.

There are corresponding cards for each of them. At the beginning of the game one card of each group is selected at random and placed in an envelope. The rest of the cards are dealt to the players. Miss Scarlet is always the first to move.

The movement is accomplished by using two six-sided dice.
4. Journey through Europe

Designed by Otto Maier Verlag and released by Ravensburg in 1954, the game was based on an 1884 game called "Journey Around the World". The object of the game is to be the first to visit seven European destinations and return to home base.
Two to six players can participate.

5. Risk

1957 saw the release of the original French game La Conquête du Monde (The Conquest of the World) that was designed by Albert Lamorisse. It was purchased by Parker Brothers and was released in 1959 as "Risk: The Game of Global Domination". The game is played by two to six players on a board that divides the globe into six continents and 42 territories. Depending on the number of players starting the game, each player is allotted a number of troops and a mission for the game, which is hidden from the other players.

The territory cards are dealt to the players, who in turn place a single troop in each territory that they have. After that the remaining troops are placed one at time by each player in turn. The object of the game is to fulfil one's mission or if that is impossible, remain the last player still in the game.
6. Settlers of Catan

The game was designed by Klaus Teuber and published by Catan Studios.
The object of the game is to reach ten winning points, by managing resources, building towns and cities, constructing roads and raising the largest army.
7. Ticket to Ride

The design of the game is by Alan R. Moon and the publisher is Days of Wonder.
Players build rail tracks in order to construct lines and reach their destination(s). The winner is the one that accumulates the most points during the game. The original game was a journey through North America. The following year the company released a European version, based on a map of Europe at the turn of the 20th century.
8. Mission: Red Planet

Up to six players pit their wits in order to harvest precious minerals from the planet Mars and its two satellites. They launch spaceships that carry astronauts to various locations on the red planet. The player with the most points, collected by fulfilling missions and collecting resources, is the winner of the game.
9. Smallworld

The game was designed by Philippe Keyaerts and published by Days of Wonder.
The game involves dominion of an island by using tribes of varying strengths and abilities. The players have a limited number of troops at their disposal and have to plan their actions and also when to retire their current tribe and get a replacement. The players with the most coins at the end of the game is declared the winner.
10. Istanbul

The game was designed by Rüdiger Dorn and illustrated by Andreas Resch and Hans-Georg Schneider, published in 2014 by Pegasus Spiele.
Merchants move around the Istanbul bazaar, selling their wares and trying to raise enough money and resources to win precious rubies. The players who is the first to gather five rubies (six if the game is played by two players) is the winner.
