T.H. White's "Darkness at Pemberley" Pt. 1 Quiz

A little-known detective story by the author of "The Once and Future King" and "The Book of Merlyn." An eerie mystery story about Inspector Buller, I highly recommend it, though it's not for squeamish or easily freaked out people.

Answer: the Festival Theatre

2. "Shall I go round to _______ _______ and shout from there?" Fill in the missing words.

Answer: Copper Street

Mr. Mauleverer sent Weans to get Mr. Beedon, but Weans got no answer from Beedon. So Weans went back down to tell Mauleverer, and asked him if he should go to Copper Street and yell at Beedon from there.

Answer: 6

5. What were both Beedon and Frazer killed with?

Answer: an automatic with silencer

"Well, sir, I wouldn't rush to any conclusions, but I see it this way. The wounds were inflicted with the same weapon: the automatic with silencer on the table there, which was found in this man Beedon's hand."
6. What is the Master's addiction?

Answer: cocaine

"Actually," said the sugeon, "I knew the old man took cocaine. But how did you?"

7. What did the doctor suggest that Buller should have been?

Answer: a poet

"'It comes to this,' said the Inspector, 'you can suspect anybody once you entertain suspicion. It's an extraordinary thing how remote human beings are from one another. We go here and there like cats, meeting, fraternising, diverging. Sometimes we have alibis and sometimes not. But always, inside, everybody is incalculable and secret, always locked up and impenetrably alone. the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.'
'You ought to have been a poet.' said the doctor."
8. What was Beedon's ethnicity?

Answer: he was Irish

"He was an Irishman and we had never got on with each other."
9. Mr. Mauleverer tells Inspector Buller that he killed Beedon and Frazer.

Answer: True

Mr. Mauleverer did confess to killing both the men; unfortunately, Buller did not have enough evidence to hold up in court. He later said that Mr. Mauleverer told him that because of his vanity.
10. Who was the last person killed in Part 1?

Answer: the porter, Rudd

"Rudd hasn't been in all night. His wife didn't let me know before because apparently he's done the same thing once or twice already. She seems to think he has a girl in Swavesey. But this morning one of the gardeners found a lot of blood on some clothes which he leaves in the gardening shed on the Backs and she got frightened."
