Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Dance if you wanna dance, please brother take a chance, you know they're gonna go" ["Wonderwall"]

Answer: The Masterplan

"The Masterplan" was a single released in October of 1995, as the B-side to the hugely successful hit "Wonderwall". Noel Gallagher wrote the song and once said that he regretted not releasing this, one of his favorite songs, as a single of its own. The song's music video, directed by Ben Jones and Greg Fay, features animations of the band and a crowd in one of their performances. Three years after the release of this B-side, Oasis released a compilation album called "The Masterplan".

The other two B-sides to "Wonderwall" were "Round Are Way' and "The Swamp Song".
2. "All he needs is his life in a suitcase, it belongs to a friend of a friend" ["Don't Look Back in Anger"]

Answer: Underneath the Sky

When "Don't Look Back in Anger" was released as a single in 1996, it came with three different B-sides: "Step Out", "Cum On Feel the Noize", and "Underneath the Sky". "Underneath the Sky" is a great song that apparently tells the story of a man traveling to a new place. It was also part of the compilation album "The Masterplan".
3. "Come what may we're unstoppable, 'cause we know just what we are" ["D'You Know What I Mean?"]

Answer: Stay Young

Some Oasis listeners may be surprised to learn that "Stay Young" was a B-side, since it actually enjoys a lot of popularity. The song was included in the compilation album "The Masterplan" and was one of the B-sides for "D'You Know What I Mean", along with a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" and a demo of "Angel Child".

Some of the song's most memorable lyrics are "stay young and invincible, 'cause we know just what we are".
4. "I would like to leave this city, this old town don't smell too pretty" ["Whatever"]

Answer: Half the World Away

"Half the World Away" was released by Oasis in December 1994 as the B-side to their hugely successful hit, "Whatever". The song also got recognition for its use as the theme of the BBC sitcom "The Royle Family". The other two B-sides to "Whatever" were "(It's Good) to Be Free" and "Slide Away".
5. "It's hard enough being alone sitting here by the phone, waiting for my memories to come and play" ["Roll with It"]

Answer: Rockin' Chair

"Rockin' Chair" reflects on getting older and the loneliness that comes with it. The lyrics say: "It's hard enough sitting there, rocking in your rocking chair, it's all too much for me to take when you're not there". This song was one of the B-sides for "Roll with It", released in August 1995.

The other B-side was "It's Better People". In some CD editions, a live version of "Live Forever" played at the band's iconic Glastonbury '95 concert was also included.
6. "I don't know what it is that makes me feel alive, I don't know how to wake the things that sleep inside" ["Some Might Say"]

Answer: Acquiesce

With "Acquiesce" having become one of Oasis' most popular songs, it may be surprising to learn that it was originally released as a B-side. This song started out as a B-side for "Some Might Say", along with "Talk Tonight" and "Headshrinker". The band decided to keep it as a B-side despite producer Alan McGee's opinion that it should be a single. Eventually, it was released as one of the lead singles of the compilation album "The Masterplan", and it became a song that many Oasis fans looked forward to hearing when seeing the band perform live.

Some fans believed the lyrics that Noel Gallagher wrote for "Acquiesce", particularly "we need each other, we believe in one another" were about him and his brother Liam. However, he has denied this multiple times.
7. "Now that you're mine, we'll find a way of chasing the Sun, let me be the one that shines with you, in the morning we don't know what to do" ["Champagne Supernova"]

Answer: Slide Away

Though "Slide Away" was released in 1994 as a promotional single for the Oasis debut album "Definitely Maybe", the song also made it as a B-side to "Champagne Supernova" in 1996. Noel has said that he wrote the song about an old girlfriend when he got a Les Paul guitar from Johnny Marr. Noel also once said that the band rarely played it live because Liam didn't like to sing it.
8. "We're goin' where the grass is free, the air is clean and the good times are growin'" ["Supersonic"]

Answer: Take Me Away

"Take Me Away" is one of Oasis' earliest B-sides, since it was released with their debut single "Supersonic" in 1994. In contrast to "Supersonic", which is a more fast-paced tune with plenty of electric guitar sounds, "Take Me Away" is slower and mostly features acoustic guitar.

The song famously has the lyric "I'd like to be under the sea", which is a direct reference to the lyrics of The Beatles' "Octopus's Garden". The band often finished some of their live performances of "Whatever" with a few verses from The Beatles' song since the chord progression is very similar.
9. "Lived in a bubble, days were never ending, was not concerned about what life was sending'" ["Cigarettes & Alcohol"]

Answer: Fade Away

"Fade Away" was one of the three B-sides that accompanied "Cigarettes & Alcohol", along with "Listen Up" and a marvelous live version of "I Am the Walrus" (originally by The Beatles). The lyrics of "Fade Away" seem to be reflective in nature, as the singer remembers his childhood and realizes life turned out different than what he imagined back then.

As the chorus succinctly explains, "while we're living, the dreams we have as children fade away".
10. "Sittin' on my own, chewin' on a bone, a thousand million miles from home, when something hit me somewhere right between the eyes" ["Some Might Say"]

Answer: Talk Tonight

"Talk Tonight", in my opinion, is one of Oasis' most underrated songs. It was one of the B-sides of "Some Might Say" (along with "Acquiesce" and "Headshrinker") and it was written and sung by Noel Gallagher. Though Noel wrote almost all of Oasis' songs, Liam was almost always the main singer. Differently, "Talk Tonight" has Noel on main vocals.

The song is about a conversation he had with a girl he met in 1994 in California, after walking off from Oasis in an infamous fight that almost broke up the band for good.
