Swayze suggested they use "She's Like the Wind" which was written for "Grandview, U.S.A." since it was never used. He thought it fit perfectly with the scene. "She's Like the Wind" was a hit. It reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and number one on the Adult Contemporary Chart. The "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack, which it was included on, also reached number one and stayed there for eighteen weeks.

According to Rob Lowe, before it was used in "Dirty Dancing" Swayze also tried to get them to use "She's Like the Wind" in the 1986 movie, "Youngbloods." It was rejected for that movie as well. Swayze also wrote a song for another movie he was in, however, "Road House" (1989).

He co-wrote "Cliff's Edge" with Stacy Widelidz and Bob Marlette and performed it. He also performed the song "Raisin' Heaven (in Hell) Tonight" which was written by Willie Nile and Martin Briley.
