Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Unlike past seasons of "Survivor", which generally totalled thirty-nine days of play, this was the first to be truncated to which duration?

Answer: Twenty-six days

Due to the impact of COVID-19 and the affiliated logistics that followed with cast and crew in Fiji, production elected to truncate the game, aiding scheduling by incorporating mandatory quarantine periods in advance of filming. It would be a decision they'd stick with going forward, reinforcing the idea that the game was entering a new era with season 41.

To compensate for the shorter timeline, tribes were informed that they would start on smaller tribes (three tribes of six) with no rice and meagre supplies-- a pot, a machete, and a flint if they won the first challenge). If tribes lost an Immunity Challenge, they would have to give up their flint, only getting it back if they won a subsequent one.
2. On several occasions, players were selected to leave their camp and visit another island. These instances were referred to as which of these?

Answer: Journeys

As part of the complex, new version of the game, players were occasionally sent onto journeys that bore potential advantage, but also had them trekking across the beautiful landscapes of Fiji. On Days 2 and 5, for instance, players from different tribes took a ride to another island to get to know each other, climbed a mountain, and made choices that revolved around the classic Prisoner's Dilemma, risking votes for the chance at an extra vote. Xander would get an extra vote and use it on Day 21; JD would get one too, but he wouldn't end up using it, instead giving it to Shan before his elimination. Deshawn would get a third, using it leading into the merge.
3. Found at the different camps were 'Beware Advantages' which, if claimed, came with which of the following risks?

Answer: Loss of vote

Although it would be a replacement for the generic Hidden Immunity Idol, it would come with a fair bit of risk, allowing finders to embark upon a difficult task with high reward. There were a couple of these throughout the early game.

The first of these was a three-way Immunity Idol, only activated when one member of each tribe recited a code phrase before an Immunity Challenge. If all three did not, anyone in possession of the Beware Advantage would not be able to vote at Tribal Council. The idols were activated on Day 11 by Xander, Naseer, and Shan.

A second Beware Advantage sent Tiffany, Brad, and Sydney to another island on Night 6, having them engage in another Prisoner's Dilemma problem for a tarp or a steal-a-vote advantage. Brad walked away with the latter, but was eliminated on Day 7 without being able to use it.
4. Of the three starting tribes, which never saw Tribal Council until the merge?

Answer: Luvu

It took fourteen days of competition before the six original Luvu tribemates received torches and dipped them into the fire pit at Tribal Council, but it wasn't without odd dynamic. Due to a lack of need for more intense social strategy normally gained by voting out other players, some Luvu teammates actively attempted to sabotage Immunity Challenges (failing to do so). Adversely, the Ua tribe was whittled down to two players by the time Jeff had the players drop their buffs.
5. The only time Jeff asked the castaways to drop their buffs was on Day 12. On that day, all competitors enjoyed the merge fest.

Answer: False

Although tree mail indicated that there would be a merge on Day 12, the castaways discovered, instead, that they would drop their buffs but need to earn their way into the merge. This said, the individual game had begun. For the Merge Challenge, the castaways were split into two five-person teams with two extra players sitting out.

The winning tribe would get their buffs and head to the merge feast while the losing team would be viable for votes at the next Tribal Council. As for the two sit-outs, they would have their fate decided by the winning team.
6. At a pivotal moment, a player had the chance to smash an hourglass and change the course of history. Was it smashed?

Answer: Yes

While Naseer joined the winning team from the merge challenge after an alleged game of rock-paper-scissors while Erika was sent to exile on an isolated, new beach, spending two days and two nights alone with nothing but a bit of rice, water, and a flint.

Although Erika believed she would have a target on her back coming back with a potential advantage from Exile Island, Jeff gave her a bit of protection in the form of an hourglass. Based on her choice, Erika could either leave the game as-is, return to fight for immunity, and not rock the boat, or she could smash the hourglass and reverse the outcome of the Merge Challenge. Erika ultimately smashed it, sending the previous winners into the challenge and leaving Tribal Council a chaotic mess.
7. Introduced in this season was the 'Shot in the Dark' twist. Who was the only contestant to use it?

Answer: Sydney

Castaways were informed at the first first Immunity Challenge that there would be yet another twist, but it would only really take effect under the direst of circumstances. When placing a vote at Tribal Council, a castaway could play a 'Shot in the Dark'. This meant that instead of placing their vote, they would reach into a bag and take a one in six shot at Immunity. It was a Hail Mary, for sure, but it could mean they survive with their back against the wall.

The risky move was only attempted once this season, right at the complicated merge vote, by Sydney. She lost her vote, failed to gain Immunity, and was eliminated as a result.
8. What was the name of this season's merged tribe?

Answer: Viakana

Eleven castaways came out of a messy Tribal Council on Day 14 and joined together on the former Luvu beach as a fully-merged tribe. Donning a bright red, Viakana would follow through for the final eleven days of the competition with rapid-fire eliminations, sometimes one night after another (and sometimes even twice in one night).

The word 'Viakana' is the Fijian word for 'hungry', particularly notable because of the lack of rice given to tribes this season.
9. The Do or Die twist, encountered on Day 21, forced a player to play a game of chance with which odds?

Answer: 1-in-3

Day 21 featured a particularly dangerous Immunity Challenge wherein Jeff explained to the seven players that one player would still win Immunity, but the first player to drop out would face a game of Do or Die. Players could avoid competing at all, sparing their chance at the expense of not taking a stab at Immunity (and Heather and Liana did this).

What resulted was Deshawn dropping out nearly immediately, heading to Tribal Council with a task at hand. He ended up getting a 1-in-3 shot at gaining Immunity and, fortunately for him, he obtained it. It meant that the castaways still had to make a vote, and with that, Liana was eliminated and sent to the jury.
10. Who was the Sole Survivor of "Survivor 41"?

Answer: Erika

It took twenty-six hard-fought days in Fiji but the final three made it to the final Tribal Council to plead their case in a round table discussion with eight jury members waiting in the wings. Though all three finalists played games with significant moves and influential turns, it was Erika's mastery of the social game, managing to navigate complex alliance breakdowns while being acknowledged as an under-the-radar threat throughout, that sealed the deal.

She would take seven of the votes for the million dollars with Deshawn taking one and Xander receiving none.

She would be the first female winner in seven seasons and the first-ever Canadian winner.
