Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As this season was conducted using the "Amazing Race" charter plane, teams started Leg 3 in what fashion?

Answer: As groups, released in packs based on their placements in the previous leg

After two back-to-back legs in Puerto Vallarta, the eleven remaining teams were flown Colombia to commence their third leg in Guatapé, directly in front of El Peñón de Guatapé. To start the leg, teams were released in three groups, each departing fifteen minutes apart based on their placement at the end of Leg 2. What they very quickly realized was that their first task of the leg was going to be an arduous climb up the 650ft high rock before them.

After sixty storeys of climbing, they found the Detour.
2. Which of these was not included in the dish teams needed to make for the 'Bandeja Paisa' Detour task in Leg 3?

Answer: Empanadas

Racers collected their Detour at the top of El Peñón de Guatapé and had to make their way down to the bottom and catch a water taxi to take them into Guatapé proper. Teams who selected the 'Bandeja Paisa' Detour task got to enjoy Colombian food culture, heading to Calle 29 to recreate the dish by making rice, beans, chicharrones, eggs, carne asada, plantains, arepas, chorizo, and avocado. If they could cook and plate it authentically, a trio of local abuelas would give them their next clue.
3. Did anyone finish the 'Yipao' Detour task in Guatapé (in Leg 3)?

Answer: No

If teams selected the 'Yipao' Detour option they could instead head to Parqueadero Municipal to engage in some manual labour, using their packing capabilities to load a Willys Jeep (a U.S. army vehicle) with a heaping pile of supplies to prepare locals for an annual parade. If they could properly secure all the provided items to the vehicle then they could get their next clue and travel onward to El Cordero de Guatapé. None of the teams finished this task (though two attempted it).
4. The Road Block teams encountered in Guatapé, Colombia had them collecting which of these from the hillsides?

Answer: Coffee beans

Racers who reached El Cordero de Guatapé were able to hire a tuk-tuk and make their way to Casa Loma in El Peñol for their Road Block task, and this time they needed to choose someone to be picky. For this, racers had to head out into the local plantation to pick Arabica coffee cherries. Once they had enough they could bring them back to the recolector, pass them through the processing machines to de-husk them, then weigh them out. If they had a kilogram of suitable beans, they could get their next clue.

Cesar, Shelisa, Leticia, Shane, Sunny, Vinny, Melissa, Kishori, Angie, Michelle, and Anthony completed this task.
5. Which team was eliminated at the Pit Stop in Guatapé in Leg 3?

Answer: Anthony and Bailey

As soon as racers had enough coffee beans to get their final clue they were informed that they could race on foot to the third Pit Stop on the grounds of Casa Loma, heading to an overlook to wrap up the leg. Ricky and Cesar kept a lead at the front of the pack for the whole leg, landing on the mat in first and winning an Expedia trip for two to Cape Town, South Africa. Anthony and Bailey, who swapped between Detour tasks three times before committing to one over the other, fell far enough behind that they were eliminated upon reaching the Pit Stop.
6. Before even starting the fourth leg, racers had to do which of these unexpected activities?

Answer: Paragliding

Even before the leg began, all competing racers were transported to the town of San Felix where they were required to paraglide to their Pit Start for this fourth leg of the race. Touching down at La Meseta in the Medellín suburb of Bella, teams departed in three departure groups determined by their arrivals at the previous Pit Stop in Guatapé, and from there they had to take taxis into Medellín's Comuna 13 to find their next route marker (waiting at the neighbourhood's escalators).
7. Racers completing the 'Dance Vibe' Detour task in Leg 4 had to learn which type of dance style in Medellín?

Answer: Breakdancing

Racers locating the escalators at Reversadero 1 in Comuna 13 found the Detour clue waiting, and for this, some teams chose 'Dance Vibe'. In this task, teams had to join a local dance troupe, getting in sync with the group's moves and performing them on the dance floor for thirty seconds to get their next clue. Juan and Shane, Yvonne and Melissa, Derek and Shelisa, Rod and Leticia, Kishori and Karishma, Michelle and Sean, and Sunny and Bizzy completed this task.
8. What type of puzzle awaited teams who attempted the 'Wall Scribe' Detour task in Leg 4?

Answer: Rebus

If teams couldn't get their rhythm right, they could take their Detour deeper into the streets of Comuna 13 to complete the 'Wall Scribe' option, allowing them to search through marked murals on the neighbourhoods walls for parts of a lengthy rebus puzzle. If racers could piece together the key phrase ('The World is Smaller Than You Think'), they could recite it to local artist Chota 13 and get their next clue. Ricky & Cesar, Amber and Vinny, and Angie and Danny figured this one out.
9. The Road Block in Leg 4 (Medellín) prompted teams with which of these clues?

Answer: 'Who's Feeling Artsy?'

Taking their taxis to Plaza Botero in the Old Quarter of Medellín, racers located a clue box containing their Road Block for Leg 4, and this one had them choosing a teammate who was feeling artsy. For this task, the selected racers had to look at the bronze artworks of Fernando Botero scattered around the plaza, memorize the shapes and names, and properly place them on a provided map elsewhere in the area. Amber, Ricky, Danny, Shelisa, Rod, Shane, Michelle, Karishma, Yvonne, and Sunny completed this task.
10. Which team was eliminated in Medellín at the end of Leg 4?

Answer: Michelle and Sean

Racers finishing their Road Block needed to proceed on foot to Phil and their fourth Pit Stop, finding the mat on Parques del Río Medellín. Although Amber finished the Road Block first, Ricky and Cesar eked out their second win in a row, navigating to Phil the quickest and claiming a prize of $2,500 USD each for doing so.

Although they arrived at the Road Block in seventh, Michelle and Sean were last to make it to the Pit Stop and the pair were sent home in tenth place.
