1. Of the three federal military installations in Charleston Harbor, which one became a POW camp?

Answer: Castle Pinckney

Castle Pinckney became one of the first POW camps of the war and was one of the few that was not a death camp. Prisoners from the battle at 1st Bull Run (Union name) were brought there.
2. When "Stonewall Jackson" graduated from West Point in 1846, what was his ranking out of a class of 59?

Answer: 17

When he was admitted to West Point he only had the equivalent of a fourth-grade education. He had good powers of concentration and good work ethics and rose in the class rankings.

Col. Theodore H. Barrett led a force that attacked about 350 CSA troops at the ranch even though they had done nothing to break the truce. Col. Barrett had direct orders not to initiate any action, but because of his ambition he would not allow the war to end before he had gained his share of glory. Col. John Ford counterattacked the Union forces, and forced them to withdraw.

They persauded Col. Barrett to refrain from further fighting, but his action had resulted in 30 killed and 113 captured.

Col. Henry Pleasents commanded the 48th Pa. Regiment composed of coal miners. He calculated the tunnel would have to be 511 feet long and would require the removal of 18,000 cubic feet of dirt. The longest military tunnel built before this was 400 feet but had to be abandoned because the air was to stale to breath.

After a mixed military performance during the war, he turned to writing and wrote Ben-Hur in 1880. He was the Governor of New Mexico and made a deal with "Billy the Kid" to turn himself in, in return for a pardon.

He fought Sherman during the March to the Sea. He was captured and held in prison after the war. He later served in Congress and when war broke with Spain, he joined the Federal army as a general of volunteers. This service entilted him to be buried in Arlington.

Answer: Gettysburg

Seeing that the Union forces were being overrun on July 2, 1863 he ordered 262 men to charge the CSA lines and hold them. Of the 262 men who made the charge 215 were lost.
