Of the four principals on the TV series 'Dawson's Creek', Ohio-born brunette Katie Holmes is the one whose career seems assured outside the show. She has enjoyed a charmed life in the business, booking work from her first audition, a small but memorable role as the rich classmate and object of Tobey Maguire's affection in Ang Lee's 'The Ice Storm' (1997). Her second audition yielded her part as troubled teen Joey on the primetime show. She played a slightly bad girl battling parents bent on creating 'perfect' teens in the uneven thriller 'Disturbing Behavior' (1997). Kevin Williamson cast her as one of a group of high school students planning the murder of a hated teacher in 'Killing Mrs. Tingle' and Doug Liman hired her to portray a checkout clerk who becomes enmeshed in a hostage situation in 'Go' (both 1999). from www.hollywood.com
