"Pippin" uses a mysterious troupe of performers, led by a character called the Leading Player, to tell the story of a young man's search for meaning. In the original 1972 Broadway production, the Leading Player was portrayed by Ben Vereen, who won a TOny Award for the role. In the 2013 revival, Patina Miller took on the part, and also won a Tony for her efforts, making this the first time that two actors of different sexes won a TOny for the same role.
