Fun Trivia
L Frank Baum's book has been adapted into a stage musical a number of times over the years, starting in 1902. The success of that original musical was a direct influence on spurring Baum to write the first sequel to his 1901 book - "The Marvellous Land of Oz". A number of the changes from the book that Baum introduced in his playscript were used in the 1939 movie, including the use of snow to save them from the field of poppies instead of the original legion of field mice (an incident that was considered too hard to reproduce onstage).
