2. During the course of the story Jack contacts a female FBI agent from his past. What is the name of this agent?

From Quiz "The Scarecrow" by Michael Connelly

Answer: Rachel Walling

3. In which novel does Rachel Walling make her first appearance?

From Quiz The Novels of Michael Connelly

Answer: The Poet

I felt that Connelly did an excellent job of writing a strong but realistic female character. Walling, like all of Connelly's characters, has an interesting back story before even being introduced in his novels. As a child, she was molested, and it is hinted in the novels that, as a teen, she may have murdered her molester.

4. Terry McCaleb, ex-FBI agent and heart transplant recipient, tracks down the killer who murdered his heart donor.

From Quiz Michael Connelly-Novels

Answer: Blood Work

This novel was made into a movie (very different from the book) starring Clint Eastwood.

From Quiz "The Scarecrow" by Michael Connelly

7. The FBI agent, connected to Jack, suggested that the "UnSub", (killer), suffered from a "paraphilia" (sex fetish). Which fetish did she suggest the killer suffered from?

From Quiz "The Scarecrow" by Michael Connelly

Answer: Abasiophilia

The killer likes to put his victims in some form of leg brace and torture them. The medical term for this form of arousal is Abrasiophilia, or being sexually stimulated by people with impaired mobility. Acrotomophilia is arousal from people with amputations. Algolagnia is arousal by pain involving an erogenous zone. Autoerotic asphyxiation is arousal from self-induced asphyxiation.

8. Which major characters make an appearance in "The Narrows" (besides the victim)?

From Quiz The Novels of Michael Connelly

Answer: Rachel Walling and Harry Bosch

"I knew this going in on the day I took the case that would take me into the narrows. I knew that my life's mission would always take me to the places where evil waits..." - Harry Bosch. Connelly uses "The Narrows" as a symbol for pure evil in the book, and his character, Bosch, is appropriately reverent of them.

9. A serial killer seems to be stalking both children and the detectives investigating the murders of the children.

From Quiz Michael Connelly-Novels

Answer: The Poet

The killer was called 'The Poet' because of Edgar Allen Poe quotes left at the crime scenes.

10. Jack finds a connection between the killer and a company called Western Data Consultants. Where is the company's facility located?

From Quiz "The Scarecrow" by Michael Connelly

Answer: Mesa, Arizona

Whilst checking the website of Denise Babbit's lawyer, Tom Fox, Jack finds that the website is designed by Western Data. This is the location that hosted the killer's tripwire sites. Jack comes to the conclusion that this cannot be a coincidence. He confirms his hunch by checking to see if anyone, connected to the victims, had used the company to store data.

13. Jack decides to investigate Western Data and checks out its website. Inside the facility is an underground server farm. By what name is the server farm known on the website?

From Quiz "The Scarecrow" by Michael Connelly

Answer: The Bunker

"The Bunker" is a colocation centre where data from client corporations and businesses are stored and are accessible twenty four hours a day to those clients through high speed fibre optic cables.

14. Which major character(s) appear(s) in both of Connelly's first two novels?

From Quiz The Novels of Michael Connelly

Answer: Harry Bosch

The first novel introduces Bosch, and he is already a bit of a fallen angel in the LAPD; he has had a case, later resolved in "The Concrete Blonde", for which bad press has caused him to be moved from Robbery/Homicide to the Hollywood detective division. This is considered to be a demotion. Oddly enough, I liked "The Black Echo" but didn't love it, and I didn't even like "The Black Ice". I don't know why I even continued with the series, but I am glad that I did, because I loved "The Concrete Blonde" and the rest is history.

"The Scarecrow" is the person who protects against those who wish to access the data illegally. So if a hacker, troll or virus carrier connects to the servers his job is to isolate and locate that person; and as an added bonus post some child pornography on to the hacker's computer and inform the FBI.

26. In which book does the main character set out to solve his/her mother's murder?

From Quiz The Novels of Michael Connelly

Answer: The Last Coyote

And his investigation leads to the death of Harvey "98" Pounds. I didn't like Pounds (the reader isn't supposed to), but his death shocked me to the core. I was listening to the book on CD while driving, and actually had to pull over to the side of the road and process the event. It is the only time that I have ever had to do that (I listen to many audiobooks).

27. "The Concrete Blonde" deals with a main character working a previous case that severely damaged his/her career, and put him/her in jeopardy of going to jail. Which character is this?
