As well as his own work as a journalist, and his novels for adults and young adults, Carl Hiaasen is known as the man who helped arrange the publication of Christopher Paolini's "Eragon". He also has musical connections, having written several songs with his friend Warren Zevon, including "Basket Case", written in conjunction with Hiaasen's novel of the same name. One of the characters in his first book, "Tourist Season", was referenced in the title of the Jimmy Buffett song "The Ballad of Skip Wiley".
