From Quiz
It Takes Two To Sing A Country Song ... Once More

Answer: Carl and Pearl Butler

Carl Butler and Pearl (Jones) Butler were both Tennessee natives who met and married while they were still unknown in the music business. Although the greatest of chart success was not realized by them ("Don't Let Me Cross Over" would prove to be their only number one chart hit), as performers and members of the Grand Ol' Opry they remained very popular with country music fans for many years - into the 1980s. "Don't Let Me Cross Over" spent eleven weeks at the number one spot on the US Country charts which was a record for an artist's debut single and one that would not be broken for more than fifty years.

From Quiz Down on Love - Country Style

Answer: Goodbye Earl

The Dixie Chicks released "Goodbye Earl" in 2000 from their album "Fly". The song was very controversial at the time and still is because the lyrics describe the failure of the legal system to protect an abused wife. In the tradition of Country music, her and her best friend take the law into their own hands and poison the husband. Some of the most controversial lyrics are: "Well the weeks went by and Spring turned to Summer And Summer faded into Fall And it turns out he was a missing person who nobody missed at all" "And they don't lose any sleep at night 'cause Earl had to die Good-bye Earl We need a break Lets go out to the lake Earl We'll pack a lunch And stuff you in the trunk Earl Well is that all right Good Let's go for a ride Earl Hey"

12. Which poker related title is shared by both a 1989 George Strait Number One hit and a 1951 Kirk Douglas film?

From Quiz Poker and Gambling Country Style

Answer: Ace in the Hole

"Ace in the Hole" is the title shared by both. The phrase refers to the best possible card a player can have that is not exposed in either a community card game like Texas Hold'em or a stud game like Seven Card Stud. The unexposed cards a player holds in such games is the hole. Although the Douglas movie has a poker related title, the movie had nothing to do with poker. George's song uses the phrase as a metaphor for having something in reserve for a rainy day because "life is a gamble, a game we all play". "The Sting" is a 1979 Paul Newman and Robert Redford poker movie. "A Big Hand for the Little Lady" is a 1966 Henry Fonda and Joanne Woodward poker movie. "Queen of Hearts" is a Juice Newton crossover hit from 1981 that uses the Queen of Hearts as a metaphor for love. George released "Ace in the Hole" as a single from his album "Beyond the Neon Moon". It was written by Dennis Adkins. It reached Number One on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart on Nov. 4, 1989 and did the same thing on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart one week later. It was preceded on both charts by Alabama's "High Cotton". It was succeeded on the US chart by Kathy Mattea's "Burnin' Old Memories" and on the Canadian chart by Restless Heart's "Say What's in Your Heart". It was George's 18th Number One overall and 11th in a row.

25. Which singer asked the title question "How Do You Like Me Now?!" of an unrequited love from high school?

From Quiz Down on Love - Country Style

Answer: Toby Keith

Toby Keith released "How Do You Like Me Now?" as the title single to his album of the same name. It was written by Keith and Chuck Cannon. It was the first hit for Keith after leaving his record label, Mercury Nashville, over creative differences. They did not believe the song would be a hit. The title seemed to be an anthem for Toby and the struggles he had to go through to get it made the way he wanted it made. The song stayed at Number One on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for four weeks from March 18 through April 15 and was named the US Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks single of the year for 2000. It was also Number One on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart for two weeks. It reached 31st on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, his best crossover success to that point. It appears Keith knew what he was talking about in sticking with the song. The chorus says it all: "How do you like me now? How do you like me now, Now that I'm on my way? Do you still think I'm crazy Standin' here today? I couldn't make you love me But I always dreamed about living in your radio How do you like me now?"
