According to Justin, 'Black Shuck' is a legend that has been passed around Lowestoft, his home town, ever since he can remember. They say that 'Black Shuck' is a ghostly dog that roams the coastline and countryside of East Anglia. 'Shuck' actually comes from the Old English 'scucca' meaning 'demon'.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time" is a beautiful ballad from the album "One Way Ticket (To Hell and Back)". The classic rock song was co-written by the two Hawkins brothers and former bassist Frankie Poullain.

"Love on the Rocks With No Ice" runs for 5 minutes and 56 seconds, which makes it the longest album on "Permission to Land". One part of their show in 2004 included Justin Hawkins climbing upon a life-sized tiger during "love on the rocks with no ice" whilst playing his guitar.

Some reviewers assumed that the band were being ironic, and were not being serious, but, in interviews, Justin claims that they are "A real Saturday night band" and are trying to put the fun back into rock music.
