MLB Players by Position Trivia Questions

1. Which man, who retired with over 600 career saves, played his entire career with the Yankees?

From Quiz
Finish the Game

Answer: Mariano Rivera

Rivera had 652 saves between 1995 and 2013 and had the most career saves at the time of his retirement. He played his entire MLB career with the Yankees, making 13 all-star teams and winning 5 World Series titles. He missed almost the entire 2012 season after a freak knee injury. He returned to form in 2013, winning comeback player of the year before calling it a career.

2. For seven consecutive seasons this catcher was in the top five voting for the league's season MVP Award. Who was this Hall of Fame catcher that won three MVPs?

From Quiz Am I The Greatest?

Answer: Yogi Berra

The other catchers won the MVP only once. Yogi had an amazing run from 1950-1956. He bagged the award in 1951, 1954, 1955, and was twice a runner-up in that span. He played 17 of his 19 seasons with the Yankees, and had the honor of going to 14 World Series with them. The hall extended their hand to Berra in 1972.

3. At first base for this team throughout the years, fans saw Frank Chance, Ernie Banks, and Mark Grace. Which team was this?

From Quiz First and the Best

Answer: Chicago Cubs

Chance was a player-manager for the Cubs in the early 1900s, and was one of three segments in the famous Tinkers-to-Evers-to-Chance double-play combination. Although mostly known for being a shortstop, and receiving two MVP awards at that position, Ernie Banks played more games at first base in his career. Grace played 13 of his 16 seasons for the Cubs at first base from 1988-2000.

4. This American Leaguer was selected as the team's catcher. Winning three MVP awards and going to more than five World Series, who is the Hall of Fame catcher on this all-time roster?

From Quiz The All-Time Baseball Roster

Answer: Yogi Berra

Although Bench of the Reds had 9 Gold Gloves at catcher to Yogi's none, Berra's catching days were pretty much over when Major League Baseball first awarded the Gold Glove in both leagues in 1958. Lombardi won a MVP with the Reds in 1938, and Fisk was a 1972 Rookie of the Year with the Red Sox. All the statistics (not just those shown) were pretty much offsetting for both Bench and Berra, but the fact that Yogi had all those top five MVP ballots, even with his star-studded Yankee team, carried him to this roster. Seasons played: Bench 17, Berra 19, Fisk 24, Lombardi 17 Hits: Bench 2048, Berra 2150, Fisk 2356, Lombardi 1792 .300 seasons: Bench 1, Berra 3, Fisk 2, Lombardi 10 Career Avg: Bench .267, Berra .285, Fisk .269, Lombardi .306 Home runs: Bench 389, Berra 358, Fisk 376, Lombardi 190 RBIs: Bench 1376, Berra 1430, Fisk 1330, Lombardi 990 Season MVPs: Bench 2, Berra 3, Fisk 0, Lombardi 1 Top Five MVPs: Bench 4, Berra 7, Fisk 2, Lombardi 1 Rookie of Year: Bench yes, Berra no, Fisk yes, Lombardi no Catching errors: Bench 97, Berra 110, Fisk 155, Lombardi 143 Top 10 Slugging: Bench 5, Berra 9, Fisk 4, Lombardi 8 World Series: Bench 4, Berra 14, Fisk 1, Lombardi 2
