Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains Trivia Questions

1. The majority of contestants competing in this "All-Stars" game placed within the top five slots of a prior season. So, which five players comprised the minority and did NOT place in the top five in a prior season?

From Quiz
"Survivor Heroes Vs. Villains" (Season 20)

Answer: Candice, James, Jerri, Randy and Tyson

Candice finished 8th in the "Cook Islands". James placed 6th in "China" and 7th in "Micronesia". Jerri placed 8th in "Australia" and 10th in "All-Stars". Randy finished 8th in "Gabon" as did Tyson in "Tocantins".

2. What was true about the majority of the challenges in this season of "Survivor"?

From Quiz Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains

Answer: They were derived from challenges used in prior seasons

Every single challenge from this season appeared in previous seasons of the show dating all the way back to "Survivor: Africa". At the same time, contestants in this season went all the way back to "The Australian Outback". Considering Samoa's proximity to the sea, most of the challenges used this time around not only involved well-known past events, but they also took place on the beach or in the water. Notably, this was the last season in which the contestants were allowed to play "Schmergen Brawl" (which they did on Day 12) because, like in "Survivor: Samoa", it was deemed too dangerous physically.

3. After Sugar was ousted, the Heroes tribe splintered into two rival factions of three. Which two members of the Heroes had to decide to which trio to give their votes, thus giving one of the factions of three potential dominance of the tribe?

From Quiz "Survivor Heroes Vs. Villains" (Season 20)

Answer: Candice and Cirie

Getting rid of Sugar was one of the few unanimous votes throughout "Heroes Vs. Villains". Afterwards, a heated argument between James and Stephanie divided the tribe into two rival factions of three: Amanda and J.T. with James, and Colby and Tom with Stephanie. Candice and Cirie were wooed heavily by both sides but in the end went along with Amanda, James and J.T. to vote out Stephanie.

4. How many people joined the jury before the merge?

From Quiz Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains

Answer: Two

As was typical of recent "Survivor" series up to this point, the jury would consist of more than the original seven members seen in earlier seasons. This would influence voting and tactics throughout the game. This season, with twenty-castaways involved over the thirty-nine day course, there were nine jury members and three castaways at the final Tribal Council ceremony. Because of the circumstances during the game, this meant that the merged tribe would begin with a jury of two Villains members.

5. What name did the merged tribe take on Day 25?

From Quiz Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains

Answer: Yin Yang

Heading into the merge with even numbers, both the Heroes and the Villains tribes created a new tribe known as Yin Yang, aptly titled considering the juxtaposition of dark and light, and lived at the former Heroes beach. Considering the fact that all of the castaways in the game had appeared on previous seasons and done respectably in the rankings, this would not have been the first merge for any of the contestants in the game. When they merged, the new tribe donned the colour black.

6. How many Reward Challenges were held following the tribal merge?

From Quiz Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains

Answer: Two

Although many of the earlier seasons used Reward Challenges to fuel politics and give the winners a break from the drudgery of later days in the competition, this season only had two Individual Rewards-- one on Day 28 and the other on Day 34. In each case, three people participated in the reward and no one won more than once. The first reward was an overnight stay on another, more luxurious island for a movie viewing while the second was a lunch and visit with a loved one while visiting a local natural wonder.

7. Which castaway won the most Individual Immunity Challenges?

From Quiz Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains

Answer: Parvati

Parvati won three of the seven Immunity Challenges during this season while Russell won two and Danielle and Jerri both won one each. In "Fans vs. Favorites", Parvati only won one Immunity Challenge while Jerri had never won one before. Danielle had won one in "Exile Island" and Russell won one in "Samoa". Parvati's streak of immunities propelled her directly towards the end of the game; she also participated in the second reward.

8. Who did not win an individual immunity challenge during their time in the "Heroes Vs. Villains" game?

From Quiz "Survivor Heroes Vs. Villains" (Season 20)

Answer: Rupert

Of the four choices only Rupert never won an individual immunity challenge. Danielle, in episode 10, won the first post-merge immunity challenge when she was able to hold on to a pole the longest without touching the ground. Jerri won her first ever in episode 11 when she was first to erect a ten-foot tower of wooden tiles. Candice won back in episode 6; although the contestants were still divided into tribes, players competed for individual immunity in this one challenge because both teams had to attend tribal council and vote someone out.

9. Over the course of the season, how many Hidden Immunity Idols were used to negate votes against a player?

From Quiz Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains

Answer: Four

With the most uses to date, the Hidden Immunity Idol accounted for four negations throughout the course of this game. In two of these cases the negation broke people out of tie votes and in another, it saved someone from being voted out entirely. The Hidden Idols were used by Parvati, Tom, Jerri, and Sandra; the former two before the merge and the latter two after it. These useful tools helped the Villains tribe retain power after the merge and ultimately led them to a final four of Villains. This is ironic since one of the idols was literally given to one of the Villains before the merge.

10. Who was the Sole Survivor of this twentieth season?

From Quiz Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains

Answer: Sandra

In the final Tribal Council, three final castaways faced a nine-person jury in a battle to earn a million dollars. For Sandra and Parvati, it would be their second million; for Russell, it would be his second shot in the finals. Once again, Sandra won the game with six votes to Parvati's three and Russell's zero. This was the second time Russell lost in the finals. Sandra received votes from Colby, Rupert, Candice, Amanda, J.T., and Courtney while Parvati received hers from Jerri, Danielle, and Coach. Russell would later return for "Survivor: Redemption Island" (though he wouldn't make it too far).

11. What ruse did Rupert devise to effectively save himself at the tribal council where Candice was evicted?

From Quiz "Survivor Heroes Vs. Villains" (Season 20)

Answer: Rupert put a rock in his pocket and insinuated it was the hidden immunity idol.

Jeff Probst surprised all the remaining players when he read the clue for the hidden immunity idol to the entire group, causing a mad dash back to the camp to begin the search for it. Knowing that he was the intended target for the evening's vote, and because he did not think the idol had been found (although unbeknownst to all it had been by Sandra), Rupert put a rock in his pocket and subtly insinuated that the idol was in his possession. Therefore the "villain" majority split the votes between Rupert and Candice in case Rupert played the idol. Moreover, Colby and Rupert smartly also voted for Candice which gave her the necessary numbers to send her home.

12. During the "tribute to fallen comrades" part of the finale show, to whom was Parvati referring to when she said that "when the big guys fall, they fall hard"?

From Quiz "Survivor Heroes Vs. Villains" (Season 20)

Answer: James

James was arguably the physically strongest competitor ever to play "Survivor". However, his determination in challenges led to injuries in both this season and in "Micronesia" which led to his elimination. In "Micronesia" he was forcibly removed by production because they feared infection of his wounds; in "Heroes Vs. Villains" his alliance reluctantly ousted him because they viewed his injured knee as a liability to winning challenges.

13. On the final day in the game Sandra performed what villainous deed at the camp?

From Quiz "Survivor Heroes Vs. Villains" (Season 20)

Answer: She burned Russell's hat in the fire.

Sandra strongly disliked Russell and had hoped to get rid of him throughout the game. On the morning before the final three left for tribal council, a morning in which Russell further infuriated her with his patronizing, she waited for him to leave the camp and then threw his hat into the fire. She surmised that Russell's ego needed the hat to hide his bald-spot, and she hoped to take away his "security blanket" before the jury arguments. What she did not know was that burning personal possessions was a technique that Russell had used himself in the "Samoa" game to cause tension in his tribe: the karmic circle indeed.

14. Sandra received votes from which players to win "Survivor Heroes Versus Villains"?

From Quiz "Survivor Heroes Vs. Villains" (Season 20)

Answer: Courtney, J.T., Amanda, Candice, Rupert, and Colby

Sandra won "Survivor 20: Heroes Vs Villains" with votes from six of the nine jury members. She received the vote from all five heroes (J.T., Amanda, Candice, Rupert, and Colby) on the jury AND one vote from Courtney, a villain. Parvati received the remaining three votes from the villains (Coach, Danielle, and Jerri) on the jury other than Courtney. Russell did not receive a single vote.
