Coles was on "In Living Color" for the first season. She was involved in one of the most infamous sketches in history. The "Bolt 45" sketch, which was a parody of a Billy Dee Williams Colt 45 commercial, was aired only one during its original broadcast in May 1990. The censors felt it was making light of date rape and has not been shown in syndication or featured on DVD. Coles played a passed-out woman.

The first season was thirteen episodes long and it ran from April to September 1990. The final episode aired in May 1994. After "In Living Color" was gone, Fox tried another sketch comedy show with "House of Buggin'," featuring a mostly Latino cast that included John Leguizamo and Luis Guzman. The comedy did not have the same edginess and was canceled after four episodes aired in January 1995. Months later, "MADtv" was born and that show lasted fourteen seasons, from October 1995 to May 2009.
