Wheel of Time - Season 1 Trivia Questions

1. A flashback to the Age of Legends opens "The Wheel of Time" season finale with Lews Therin Telamon (the last Dragon) and Latra Posae Decume (the Tamyrlin Seat) arguing over Lews' plan to try to cage the Dark One. How long ago does this happen?

From Quiz
1.8 "The Eye of the World"

Answer: 3000 years ago

This opening scene is spoken entirely in the Old Tongue, and takes place in a wondrous world of beauty and technology, with sleek aircraft flying above a futuristic city. This was the Age of Legends, when the Aes Sedai were at the height of their power, with both men and women working together to perform wonders. Yet here we see Lews Therin Telamon (portrayed by Alexander Karim) trying to garner support for a joint male/female effort to cage the Dark One and prevent him from touching the world again. The Tamyrlin Seat (portrayed by Katie Brayben) is worried about the potential backlash, saying that his plan could destroy everything they know, and thrust society backwards a thousand years or more. And, of course, in the 'present', we see a world that has barely a memory of the Age of Legends, and we know that Lews Therin's plan failed.

2. "The Dark Along the Ways" opens with a flashback to the Aiel War from twenty years ago. We witness a battle between Illianer soldiers and one lone Aiel 'Maiden of the Spear'. What significant disadvantage does she have in the fight?

From Quiz 1.7 "The Dark Along the Ways"

Answer: She is in labour

Our first view of an Aiel in the series came in episode 4 when Rand and Mat encountered a caged (deceased) Aiel outside the mining village of Breen's Spring. Here, we get to see the incredible and renowned skill of an Aiel warrior as this single, very pregnant, fighter (played by Magdalena Sittova) takes on a number of enemy soldiers and defeats them all with her spears, while experiencing labour pains. Unfortunately, it is also her labour pains that ends up being her downfall as one of her contractions distracts her enough to allow one of the soldiers to stab her with a knife. She still manages to dispatch him, and then she sinks to the ground and makes ready to give birth... when one more soldier comes upon her with sword in hand (fade to opening credits).

3. The Amyrlin Seat is introduced through her backstory, and we see Siuan Sanche as a young girl helping her fisherman father eke out a living. In which country, known for its giant fortress, did they live?

From Quiz 1.6 "The Flame of Tar Valon"

Answer: Tear

The fortress, known as the Stone of Tear, has already been mentioned in the show as a potential exotic destination to visit, but in our flashback we see it in the distant background as Siuan and her father are fishing. Unfortunately, another thing Tear is known for (in the books, at least) is the outlawing of channeling. So it is no real surprise when the two return from their fishing to find their hut burned down and the Dragon's Fang marked on the one remaining bit of wall. With Siuan's ability discovered, her father promptly sends her off to Tar Valon and the White Tower. Young Siuan Sanche is played by Keira Chansa, while her father is Peter de Jersey.

4. In the aftermath of the battle in the previous episode, "Blood Calls Blood" begins with a funeral for those who fell in the fighting, including Kerene Sedai. As he lays Kerene in her grave, what item does her Warder Stepin take from her body?

From Quiz 1.5 "Blood Calls Blood"

Answer: Her Great Serpent ring (with a green gem for her Ajah)

What we see in this opening scene funeral is that the circle (or wheel) is a prominent aspect in the world of "The Wheel of Time". All of the bodies are buried next to each other in two concentric circles, looking like so many spokes on a wheel. And the fallen from both sides of the conflict are buried together in the ceremony, showing reverence and respect for all. Moiraine's benediction over Kerene's body is "May the last embrace of the mother welcome you home." When Stepin (Peter Franzén) lays Kerene Sedai (Clare Perkins) into her grave, he collects her Great Serpent ring, which every Aes Sedai wears and which shows their Ajah affiliation. The custom (as presented in the show, if not the books) is for an Aes Sedai's ring to be returned to the White Tower at her death. Later in the episode at the White Tower, we see Stepin undergo a ceremony where he places the ring in a receptacle of molten metal, melting it down.

5. "The Dragon Reborn" opens with a flashback battle scene where a pair of soldiers are protecting their king from Logain Ablar, a man who can channel the One Power. What kingdom does Logain conquer under the name of the Dragon Reborn?

From Quiz 1.4 "The Dragon Reborn"

Answer: Ghealdan

We see Logain rebuff all attacks against himself with ease, using channeled Air to block blades and strike at soldiers. But we also see how the male half of the Source is corrupted, with the normal clean weaves of the One Power tainted with black. Logain does not kill the King of Ghealdan in his attack, but rather spares him and heals his wounds, telling the king that the Dragon Reborn has no need of crowns, and that he intends not to break the world anew, but to bind the nations together. Inspired, the king decides to join with and follow this self-proclaimed Dragon, but he also warns Logain that he had already sent to the Aes Sedai for help. Logain is portrayed by Álvaro Morte, and the King of Ghealdan is played by Miguel Álvarez.

6. Nynaeve al'Meara, the Village Wisdom who was dragged off by a Trolloc in the first episode, inexplicably shows up, having tracked the party all the way to Shadar Logoth. What does she do when she finds Lan and Moiraine?

From Quiz 1.3 "A Place of Safety"

Answer: Holds a blade to Lan's throat

We see Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) arrive at the end of the second episode "Shadow's Waiting" as a cliff-hanger, and episode three "A Place of Safety" begins with the flashback of how she managed to escape the Trollocs. Essentially, the Trolloc who carried her off was distracted long enough for her to run and hide in the sacred pool (seen in the first episode). When the Trolloc followed her there, Nynaeve was able to kill it with its own blade. As Lan (Daniel Henney) escapes Shadar Logoth with a severely injured and weakened Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), Nynaeve catches him unawares and threatens him with blade throat, demanding to know the whereabouts of the other Two Rivers youths.

7. "Leavetaking" opens with a voiceover introduction by Moiraine Sedai, describing her mission to find someone. Who is she looking for?

From Quiz 1.1 "Leavetaking"

Answer: The Dragon Reborn

Moiraine Damodred, portrayed by Rosamund Pike, introduces the world of "The Wheel of Time" succinctly, explaining in a few sentences that the world was once broken when the male Aes Sedai of the Age of Legends failed in their attempt to "cage Darkness itself". She describes how "the seas boiled, mountains were swallowed up, cities burned", and that the female Aes Sedai were left to try to preserve the world in the aftermath. More importantly, she also explains that souls are reincarnated by the turning of the Wheel of Time, and that the man who led those male Aes Sedai in the distant past - known as the Dragon - had been reborn a mere 20 years ago.

8. Rand and Moiraine have entered the Blight to face the Dark One at the Eye of the World, and it is not an easy journey. When they stop for a rest, Rand dreams of an encounter with the Dark One. What does Rand do to escape the dream?

From Quiz 1.8 "The Eye of the World"

Answer: Stabs himself

Rand 'wakes' to find moss growing on his hand and when he sits up, Moiraine asks, "What? What did you dream? Dreams have great meaning, especially here, so close to his touch." But Rand has barely begun his answer when Moiraine is skewered from behind by a sword. Rand finds himself facing the Dark One (played by Fares Fares) from his earlier dreams, complete with burning eyes and mouth, and he reacts by shooting an arrow into the Dark One's eye. It barely phases him, and he pushes the arrow through, transforming his visage to that of a normal man in the process. In their conversation, the Dark One recognizes Rand as Lews Therin (the Dragon) reborn, and comments on Rand's lack of readiness to face him with just one Aes Sedai and no knowledge of how to use the power. Rand, in an effort to escape, ends up exclaiming, "This is a dream!" and stabs himself through the belly with his heron-mark sword. Sure enough, he awakes, and Moiraine asks the same question as before... without dying this time. Rand al'Thor is portrayed by Josha Stradowski, while Moiraine Damodred is played by Rosamund Pike.

9. After the opening credits, we see that everyone is approaching Tar Valon. How much time has passed since the events of the previous episode?

From Quiz 1.5 "Blood Calls Blood"

Answer: One month

Without seeing a map of the world of "The Wheel of Time", it is difficult to get a handle on the scope of the distances to be traveled in the land. (The map can be seen on the show's website, and in the bonus materials provided by Amazon's streaming service). Suffice it to say, it has taken a month for each of the different traveling groups (the Aes Sedai / the Tinkers / Rand & Mat) to reach Tar Valon from where we last saw them in episode four. As Lan and Moiraine discuss whether or not the other four young folk from the Two Rivers have arrived, Moiraine assures him that they if they are there, they will find them, and if they are not... they will find them. Moiraine Damodred is portrayed by Rosamund Pike, while her Warder al'Lan Mandragoran is played by Daniel Henney.

10. Moiraine, Lan and Nynaeve join the entourage of Aes Sedai and Warders who are transporting the captured Logain to Tar Valon. Which of Moiraine's Aes Sedai 'Sisters' heals her infected wound with the One Power?

From Quiz 1.4 "The Dragon Reborn"

Answer: Kerene Nagashi

The group of Aes Sedai escorting Logain is comprised of Sisters from the Red and Green Ajah. We are introduced to three of them by name, although it is mentioned that there are eight altogether (3 Green and 5 Red). The two names Greens are Kerene Nagashi, who has one Warder named Stepin, and Alanna Mosvani, who has two Warders named Ihvon and Maksim. The only Red whose name we know is the leader of the group, Liandrin Guirale. None of the Reds have Warders. Clare Perkins plays Kerene and her Warder Stepin is Peter Franzén. Alanna is played by Priyanka Bose, while her Warders are portrayed by Emmanuel Imani (Ihvon) and Taylor Napier (Maksim). Liandrin is played by Kate Fleetwood.

11. Separated from the others, Rand and Mat discuss where to go next, and settle on where Egwene was likely to go... namely Tar Valon. When Rand comments, "They say all roads lead there," what is Mat's response?

From Quiz 1.3 "A Place of Safety"

Answer: "That's not how roads work."

Mat (Barney Harris) acts as a bit of the comedy relief in the show with his quick wit and wry humour, but it is balanced by the rough life situation he has grown up with, needing to care for his sisters because of incapable parents. Mat prefers to go home, but Rand is dead set on finding Perrin and (especially) Egwene, refusing to believe that they might have died in Shadar Logoth. With Egwene's budding abilities with the One Power, Rand knows that she truly has no other choice, and he will not abandon her.

12. With Trollocs in pursuit, Moiraine and Lan lead Mat, Rand, Perrin and Egwene out of the Two Rivers. At what village do they cross the Tarendrelle (one of the 'two rivers' bordering the region)?

From Quiz 1.2 "Shadow's Waiting"

Answer: Taren Ferry

Appropriately enough, a ferry is located at Taren Ferry, and the travelers entice the ferryman to quickly take them across the river. As they reach the other side, the Trollocs and Fade arrive and loudly express their frustration at being unable to follow. Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) explains to the others that they have earned a reprieve, as one of the few things Trollocs fear is deep water (one Trolloc falls in and drowns while they watch).

13. Logain Ablar is brought in to be sentenced for his actions that led to so much death and destruction. Upon hearing the Amyrlin's judgment, for what does Logain beg?

From Quiz 1.6 "The Flame of Tar Valon"

Answer: To be killed

Once gentled, a man who can channel will lose the will to live, as was previously explained by the Gleeman Thom Merrilin. When Logain (Álvaro Morte) is brought before the Amyrlin Seat, he tries to goad her by saying how easily he was able to gather an army to march on Tar Valon... because of how weak she is, and bragging about killing Kerene Sedai. Siuan, however, doesn't fall for it, and sentences him to stay alive and to be watched and studied by the Aes Sedai, "You will serve as an example to all other false Dragons and men who dare to channel." Upon this pronouncement, Logain begs for death, "No. No. Kill me. Please! I beg you!"

14. As Rand and Mat enter Tar Valon, they are astounded by the grandeur of the city. What is Rand's exclamation?

From Quiz 1.5 "Blood Calls Blood"

Answer: Blood and Ashes!

There are many strange turns of phrase that can be found sprinkled thoughout the many books of "The Wheel of Time", and 'Blood and Ashes!' is probably one of the most recognizable for fans of the books. It was very gratifying to hear it for the first time in the show. The other three examples can also be found in the books, and may be heard in the show at some point in the future, who knows? Josha Stradowski plays Rand al'Thor, while Barney Harris is Mat Cauthon.

15. How many Sisters at a time are working to maintain the shield on Logain to prevent him from touching the Source?

From Quiz 1.4 "The Dragon Reborn"

Answer: Two

In the book series, the standard number of Aes Sedai (according to White Tower policy) needed to maintain a shield on a man who can channel is six, although it can be done with fewer, depending on the strength of the male channeler. In the situation presented in the show, there are only seven Aes Sedai in Logain's escort, and they are taking turns doing the job, two at a time, to manage the strain of holding him back. Once healed, Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) is quick to offer her services to lessen the overall load on her Sisters. As Alanna comments when describing the effort to keep Logain contained, "It's like holding a cat in the bath."

16. After witnessing the madman's capture from afar, Moiraine and her warder (Lan Mandragoran) discuss where they will go next in their quest. She tells him of the rumours of four ta'veren in a secluded region known by what name?

From Quiz 1.1 "Leavetaking"

Answer: The Two Rivers

Although not explained at this time in the show, the novels describe ta'veren as people who have a great affect on (or are greatly affected by) the Pattern woven by the Wheel of Time. What Moiraine does say is that the four rumoured ta'veren in the Two Rivers are all of the right age to be the prophecied Dragon reborn. Moiraine's warder (protector and companion, bonded to her by the One Power), Lan Mondragoran, is portrayed by Daniel Henney.

17. Moiraine and Lan locate Mat and Rand at their inn, and upon seeing Mat, Moiraine is shocked at the state he is in. When she approaches Mat, how does he react?

From Quiz 1.6 "The Flame of Tar Valon"

Answer: Tries to stab her with the Shadar Logoth dagger

Still under the impression that Mat's behaviour is due to the madness of the corruption on male channelers, Rand draws his sword to defend Mat from Moiraine's advance, believing that she intends to gentle him. Lan, however, easily disarms Rand and holds him down as Moiraine approaches Mat. Mat, at the same time, spews vile words at Moiraine, and when she draws close, whips out the dagger and tries to stab her with it. Moiraine quickly wraps it in weaves of Air, then proceeds to use the One Power to draw the black taint of Shadar Logoth out of him, at great risk to herself. Daniel Henney portrays Lan, and Mat and Rand are played by Barney Harris and Josha Stradowski, respectively.

18. Who appears in the background in the streets of Tar Valon more than once, whistling while watching Mat and Rand?

From Quiz 1.5 "Blood Calls Blood"

Answer: Padan Fain

Padan Fain (Johann Myers) was introduced in the first episode "Leavetaking" as the peddler who arrives to the Two Rivers in time for the Bel Tine festival. He bought a stolen bracelet from Mat, and then was later seen chuckling quietly to himself and walking away calmly as the Trollocs ravished the Two Rivers. The whistling that he does is also heard in the first episode, then again during episode two, "Shadow's Waiting" when Mat finds the dagger in Shadar Logoth. How does Fain come to be in Tar Valon at the same time that the boys (and all the others) arrive?

19. In conversation with Moiraine, Alanna Sedai explains her motivation for joining the Green Ajah when they were younger. What is the Green Ajah also called?

From Quiz 1.4 "The Dragon Reborn"

Answer: The Battle Ajah

When Moiraine suggests to Alanna that she could have been Blue Ajah, Alanna responds with some humour, stating that she could never manage with just one Warder. But more to the point, Alanna "thought it was so heroic... The Battle Ajah - warriors trained to defend humanity from the Dark One at the Last Battle." With their militaristic purpose, it is understandable that Greens would want more than one Warder. Although in the show it seems that other benefits of having multiple Warders are also considered, as a polyamorous relationship is heavily implied between Alanna, Ihvon and Maksim.

20. Lan appeals to Nynaeve's sensibilities as the Wisdom of the Two Rivers, asking her to use her skills to tend to Moiraine's wound. What does Nynaeve do?

From Quiz 1.3 "A Place of Safety"

Answer: Makes a poultice and dresses the wound

Despite her mistrust of Moiraine and Lan's motives, and the danger to which Mat, Egwene, Perrin and Rand have all been exposed, Nynaeve is convinced to use her skills to try and help Moiraine. She gathers flowers and bark from the area and uses her mortar and pestle to make a healing poultice. As she cleans the wound and prepares to administer the poultice, she pauses in consideration of Lan's link to Moiraine, letting him know that what she is about to do will be very painful.

21. With all of the fighting men facing Trollocs and Fades in the Gap, a small group of five women prepares to defend the city walls using the One Power. Which of them takes the lead in linking together to form a 'circle' to direct their combined power?

From Quiz 1.8 "The Eye of the World"

Answer: Lady Amalisa Jagad

A call is put out for any women in the city who can channel to come and help defend the city, while everyone else (who is not preparing to fight) is being evacuated. Neither Egwene nor Nynaeve have any real understanding or control over their ability to channel the One Power, but they decide to answer the call, anyways. The Shadowspawn army breaks through the defenses and begins rushing towards the city, and Lady Amalisa instructs the other women how to link with her, and she take control of a large amount of power - more than she is able to safely control. She is able to strike down the attacking creatures, but at the same time draws too much power, and begins to 'burn out' herself and the women linked with her. Nynaeve manages to force Egwene out of the circle before she can be burned out, and it appears as though Nynaeve is not able to escape injury. In turn, Egwene draws on the Source and seems to heal Nynaeve, even though she has never used the One Power in that way, before. Egwene al'Vere is portrayed by Madeleine Madden.

22. After the travelers are presented to the Lord of Fal Dara, the view shifts back to the city's exterior and we see someone else exit the Waygate alone. Who?

From Quiz 1.7 "The Dark Along the Ways"

Answer: Padan Fain

Padan Fain, portrayed by Johann Myers, was in the Two Rivers at the beginning - the shady peddler who bought stolen property from Mat. We saw him watch the Trolloc attack with a smile and a whistle as he turned away nonchalantly. Since then, he has followed the group (or some of the group) on their journey. His whistling was heard in Shadar Logoth just before Mat found the dagger, he was seen watching Rand and Mat in the streets of Tar Valon, and before stepping out of the Ways, his whistling was heard in the dark before the encounter with the Trolloc. The question of how Fain activated the Waygate is not addressed on screen, and viewers only saw that Moiraine used the One Power to activate it, but in the show extras one of the production stills shows Fain holding a small stone Avendesora leaf, which is the means by which it is accomplished in the books (moving the leaf from one spot on the gate to another). A little later in the episode, Perrin catches sight of Fain walking through the streets of Fal Dara, as well, although he is not sure if it was actually him, and Nynaeve says that he must be dead.

23. Arriving at the White Tower, Lan and Moiraine take Nynaeve somewhere to prevent her from being snagged by the other Aes Sedai and forced to become a Novice (Aes Sedai in training)? Where is Nynaeve hidden away?

From Quiz 1.5 "Blood Calls Blood"

Answer: The Warder's Quarters

After Nynaeve's awesome display of using the One Power in the last episode, Moiraine knows that she will be a prize commodity within the political White Tower. Each of the Ajahs will want to recruit a woman of such power into their ranks, or at the very least rest upon the prestige of bringing such a powerful channeler to the Tower for training. But Moiraine also knows that Nynaeve has little trust for Aes Sedai, and until that moment of unleashed Power, Nynaeve didn't even realize that she could channel. With her own mission to find the Dragon Reborn, Moiraine cannot afford to let Nynaeve be snapped up by the Tower (yet), and warns her, "Do not underestimate the women in this Tower. Each of them has her own goal, her own agenda, her own pride and ambition." Nynaeve al'Meara is played by Zoë Robins.

24. Mat and Rand find a mining village called Breen's Spring where they hope to find food and shelter. As they enter the village, they see a dead man suspended over the road in a cage. Who was the man?

From Quiz 1.3 "A Place of Safety"

Answer: An Aielman

After eating dinner, Mat returns to the caged Aielman with the intent of robbing the body for any possible valuables. He is approached by another man (who will be featured in the next question), who tells Mat about the Aiel, and how this one had been killed in a cowardly way. Aiel, Mat learns, will always veil their faces when ready to fight or kill... this one had been killed with his shoufa down, thus he had either been ambushed, or murdered.

25. Rand has a disturbing dream where he gags and disgorges an animal. What kind of animal?

From Quiz 1.2 "Shadow's Waiting"

Answer: A bat

In addition to the bat coming out of his gullet, Rand also sees a dark, shadowy figure with glowing red eyes before he wakes with a start. He also quickly learns that each of his Two Rivers companions had the same dream with the bats and the mysterious figure. The creepiness of the occurrence is heightened when they find a number of dead bats littering the ground around their campsite. Moiraine cautions them that dreams have power, and that they should let her know if such a dream happens again.

26. To face the Dark One, Moiraine gives Rand an object that is capable of increasing the flow of the One Power a hundredfold. What is it called?

From Quiz 1.8 "The Eye of the World"

Answer: A sa'angreal

Rand wonders how he'll be able to face the Dark One without knowing how to use the One Power, and Moiraine gives him the sa'angreal and explains that he will be able to respond instinctively when the time comes, just as he had before in times of stress. And with the sa'angreal to increase his power a hundredfold, that power may be enough defeat the Dark One and reseal his prison before he can fully break free. In the literary world of "The Wheel of Time", there are angreal, which are more common, but less powerful than sa'angreal, and there are also ter'angreal, which do not amplify the One Power, but are like devices that use the One Power for a specific function.

27. Moiraine speaks with a woman tending bar in a tavern who has the power to see auras and images around other people. What is her name?

From Quiz 1.7 "The Dark Along the Ways"

Answer: Min

Portrayed by Kae Alexander, Min Farshaw comes across as no-nonsense but also a little world-weary. As a 'seer', her ability to see parts of the Pattern (manifested through visions and auras around people) is known to the White Tower, and specifically Moiraine and the greater Blue Ajah. When Moiraine asks what she sees around the Two Rivers youths at a nearby table, Min replies, "The one on the left (Perrin) has yellow eyes, blood running down his chin. And the redhead is rocking a baby." Around the girls (Egwene and Nynaeve), Min sees, "White flame... and a ring of gold." Significantly, she also tells Moiraine that they are unusually all linked, "I see sparks of light trying to fill the shadows, and the shadows trying to swallow the sparks." And she stresses that her visions were all very clear, and that the more important someone is to the Pattern, the clearer the vision. Min also explains one further vision that she had... about Moiraine, "I see the Amyrlin Seat, and she's wearing full regalia, and she's going to be your downfall."

28. Egwene and Perrin, still traveling with the Tuatha'an, are captured by the Whitecloaks in sight of the White Tower. What did the Tinkers do when approached by the Children of the Light?

From Quiz 1.5 "Blood Calls Blood"

Answer: Linked arms and stood fast

The Traveling People (a.k.a. Tinkers or Tuatha'an) follow the Way of the Leaf, resolving to do no violence, so they definitely did not attack the Whitecloaks. Yet, neither are they cowards, and when Valda spots Egwene and Perrin from a distance and demands that the Tinkers turn them over, they refuse to comply, standing together in defiance with arms linked. This doesn't stop the Whitecloaks from laying into them with their fists, but as Aram (Daryl McCormack) comments to Perrin and Egwene as they run to find a hiding place, he knows that they would not actually kill any Tinkers, in spite of their seeming ruthlessness. Marcus Rutherford plays the part of Perrin Aybara, while Madeleine Madden is Egwene al'Vere.

29. Perrin and Egwene continue to travel with the Tuatha'an, or Tinkers, and they learn that the Traveling People follow a pacifistic way of life. What do they call it?

From Quiz 1.4 "The Dragon Reborn"

Answer: The Way of the Leaf

In conversation with Ila, the matriarch of this group of Traveling People, Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) and Egwene (Madeleine Madden) discover that the Tuatha'an follow 'The Way of the Leaf'. Ila explains that they "forswear violence and all instruments of it." and that, "the leaf, in its time, falls to the dirt that nourishes the tree that in its time, grows the leaf again. Nothing is ever lost." Ila is portrayed by Maria Doyle Kennedy.

30. The two boys find an inn where they buy some food and drink and are able to hear a Gleeman sing a ballad about the man who broke the world (the last Dragon). What is the Gleeman's name?

From Quiz 1.3 "A Place of Safety"

Answer: Thom Merrilin

Thom takes center stage in the common room of the inn, briefly tuning a string on his guitar before singing his ballad. After just the one song, he leaves the stage and soon has an encounter with our boys Mat and Rand. Thom sees a pickpocket lift Mat's purse, and steals it right back from the thief. When Rand and Mat are strongly encouraged to cough up some money for the Gleeman, Mat discovers his purse missing. Thom dangles it in front of his face, then keeps it instead of returning it... ostensibly as a lesson. Soon after, however, Thom finds Mat by the caged Aiel and together they bury the poor soul. In the process, Mat manages to reclaim his money from Thom.
