L.A. Noire Trivia Questions

1. What is the name of the main protagonist in "L.A. Noire"?

From Quiz
"L.A. Noire" [Prologue]

Answer: Cole Phelps

Cole Phelps, a war veteran now living in 1940s Los Angeles, California, takes the lead role in the game. There is one other playable character, but he doesn't come until later in the game. Mark Bishop is a suspect in one of the cases, Rusty Galloway is a future partner, and Leon Kennedy is the protagonist from "Resident Evil" games.

2. The main character is Officer Cole Phelps. What did he do before he joined the police department?

From Quiz L.A. Noire

Answer: He was in the Marine Corps

Phelps served in World War II. Throughout the game, we see many flashbacks to his time in Okinawa. If you pick up special newspapers placed at different points, you can see clips which will fill you in on events and motivations in the characters' lives.

3. What war did Cole serve in?

From Quiz "L.A. Noire" [Prologue]

Answer: World War II

The setting of the game is 1947 L.A., the world is just rebounding out of World War II. Although the Cold War was beginning due to Communist scares, Cole Phelps was never involved with this. The American Indian war didn't even happen in California, but along the East Coast.

4. Throughout the game, Cole will see many aspects of service in the police department. What is the first section to which he is assigned in the game?

From Quiz L.A. Noire

Answer: The Patrol Desk

In this area of the game, Cole must learn how to collect evidence. One helpful tactic is to lift an item, then rotate the left stick of the controller. If there is something unique about the object, such as a company name etched on it, or distinguishing marks, this will make the camera zoom in.

5. Which police desk do you start the game in?

From Quiz "L.A. Noire" [Prologue]

Answer: Patrol Officer

Cole Phelps signs on into the Los Angeles Police force as a Patrol Officer, gradually climbing the ladder through the ranks of detectives. Night Watchmen and Captain of the Guards aren't even in the game.

6. What is the radio call number of the car Cole and his Patrol partner drive?

From Quiz "L.A. Noire" [Prologue]

Answer: Car 13 Adams

When you start as a Patrol Officer, you and your partner drive car 13 Adams, acknowledged when the first case calls up Cole's car to investigate an alleyway and Cole responds with "This is car 13 Adams, go ahead." Car 11 King is the name of the cars you drive as a detective, 23 Walsh and 18 Sigma are names I made up.

7. What can Cole use to help eliminate and better guess interrogation questions, or find all clues at a crime scene?

From Quiz "L.A. Noire" [Prologue]

Answer: Intuition

While EXP Points are used to gain Intuition, you don't directly use EXP Points to aid in your case. Spending Intuition can help Cole either eliminate one of three choices from an interview, or get a percentage on each answer to see what other detectives chose, if you are signed in to Rockstar's Social Club. The other way of using Intuition is during a crime scene hunt, as it will put icons on the mini map to show where remaining clues are. There is no money spending or Crime Sense in the game.

8. What real-life figure of organized crime appears as a character in the game?

From Quiz L.A. Noire

Answer: Mickey Cohen

In the game, Cohen is involved in a morphine distribution ring. In reality, Cohen was a powerful figure of crime in New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and served four years in prison for tax evasion. He died in 1976 of natural causes.

9. In the case "Buyer Beware", where can the murder weapon be found?

From Quiz "L.A. Noire" [Prologue]

Answer: In a trash bin

When investigating the murder of Everett Gage, a witness on the street can tell you he saw a man throw a gun into the trash bin, which you can find out belongs to the murderer. The sidewalk has the dead body and bullet casings, inside the store is Mr. Gage's clerk, and there are no near by cars.

10. What is the name of the housing development seen in the Arson cases?

From Quiz L.A. Noire

Answer: Elysian Fields

The name Elysian Fields is a reference to the concept of the afterlife in Greek mythology. Elysium is where the virtuous went after they died. In the game, the neighborhood was designed as a place for veterans of the military to settle, after the end of World War II.

11. Who is the Captain of the Homicide department?

From Quiz L.A. Noire

Answer: James Donnelly

As with the captains of other departments, Donnelly provides key information before the detectives start each case. He tolerates no sloppiness, but does not hesitate to praise his subordinates after they solve a particularly difficult case.

12. In "Buyer Beware", when you sit down to interrogate Mr. Kalou, what does he have with him on the table?

From Quiz "L.A. Noire" [Prologue]

Answer: Cup of coffee

You would think after trying to persuade Cole to buy a watch that Mr. Kalou would carry some of his jewelry, as he is a jewelry store owner. Alas, all he gets is a single cup of coffee. What is funny is that if you mess up the interview, the Captain yells at you, and you walk right back in as if nothing happened. That must be one long lasting coffee cup.

13. What is the name of the jazz club seen several times in the game?

From Quiz L.A. Noire

Answer: The Blue Room

The original music in the game was also released as a soundtrack album. The score was composed by Andrew and Simon Hale.

14. In which case did the victim die from having been hit by a car?

From Quiz L.A. Noire

In this case, as with several others, you will have to visit the city morgue. The coroner helps inform you about the victim's injuries.

15. What does Cole do to get promoted to a detective?

From Quiz "L.A. Noire" [Prologue]

Answer: Succesfully interrogate Mr. Kalou

***SPOILER*** After coaxing a confession of murder from Mr. Kalou, the Captain of Homicide Desk tells Cole to "...Get two suits, have them pressed. You're going to need them.", meaning he will put in a promotion ticket for Cole to the Traffic Desk. You do take down a gang of thugs and trace a nickel plated gun, but they do not give you the promotion, nor does your partner fall in battle.

16. In the final case, "A Different Kind of War," Phelps learns that the suspect has taken a hostage and run off. Where is the hiding place?

From Quiz L.A. Noire

Answer: The city sewers

A harrowing chase ensues. Phelps must endure the betrayal of a friend, as well as deal with the knowledge that many of his previous 'solutions' to cases are dashed. The end sequence itself contains many plot twists and must be seen to be believed.
