Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Could you run ANY SIX NEURAL tests on this cat, please?

Answer: Eurasian Lynx

Occurring all over Northern Europe and Asia, the Eurasian lynx is one of the big cats whose survival as a species is not yet in immediate danger, although some of its subspecies, such as the Balkan lynx, are very much endangered. Lynx generally find enough prey in the wild, so they will not usually venture near settlements in their hunt for food.
2. Is there a MUNITION LOAN store in this town?

Answer: Mountain Lion

Found in most of the Americas, with the exception of the North American area east of the Rockies, the mountain lion, alternatively also known as cougar, puma and catamount, is an apex predator. It is also the largest of the Felinae or small cat subfamily and the fourth largest feline species.
3. Should this SAD ONE PROWL the hills alone?

Answer: Snow Leopard

Living in the Asian highlands, particularly in many of the former Soviet republics, as well as Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Himalayas, this beautiful large cat does occasionally attack livestock while on the hunt. Most of their prey are ungulates - sheep and goats.
4. Conservation of this feline is difficult with RARITIES BEING unknown.

Answer: Siberian Tiger

Although "Siberian" is probably the first word that comes to mind when asking for a type of tiger, this moniker does actually not constitute a species or even subspecies, but merely a population of Panthera tigris tigris, which also encompasses the Bengal, Caspian and Malayan tiger. Siberian tigers are the largest cats in existence, with males occasionally reaching up to 300kg (675 lbs) and body lengths rarely being less than 150 cm (5 ft). Like all tiger populations, the Siberian tiger is threatened.
5. This cat would appreciate A CURDLED POODLE for lunch.

Answer: Clouded Leopard

The clouded leopard is the smallest of the big cats or Pantherinae. In size and shape, it resembles a lynx more than the big cats it's related to and in fact it is significantly smaller than a lynx. The populations of this beautiful cat are rather fragmented, with the largest groups found in China.
6. I know he would do a lot to win the race, but would HE CHEAT?

Answer: Cheetah

Although very much looking like a leopard, the cheetah is actually a member of the Felinae (small cat) subfamily. However, with a length of up to 1.5 meters (5 feet), its top speed is the highest of any land animal - cheetahs have been clocked at up to 120 kph (75 mph) and they can reach 100 kph (62 mph) in less than three seconds, faster than most supercars.
7. You don't want to encounter this feline fellow in a STRANGE ATRIUM.

Answer: Sumatran Tiger

The last of the Indonesian tiger populations, these big cats are critically endangered, with fewer than a thousand remaining in the wild. The Javan and Bali tiger were hunted to extinction in the 1970s and 1950s respectively and officially declared extinct in 2008. Habitat loss and poaching may soon result in this majestic animal becoming extinct in the wild and there are only isolated breeding successes in captivity so far.
8. Would this cat make a PROUDER LAMA if it were a Buddhist?

Answer: Amur Leopard

With fewer than 100 individuals remaining in the wild, the Amur leopard is among the rarest felines to still exist on our planet. In fact, the captive population in zoos and conservation centers now outnumbers the wild population about 2 to 1. This leopard's fur is lighter than that of most leopard subspecies.
9. Don't let this question be a BLANK CHAPTER in your quiz-playing history!

Answer: Black Panther

The black panther is actually not a species or subspecies of cat, but rather refers to any black-colored (melanistic) member of the Panthera. Most black panthers are leopards, but black jaguars also exist. There are also a few rare mentions of black tigers, but no completely black tigers exist. Animals referred to as black tigers are actually white tigers with a higher than usual percentage of dark stripes. Black lions, although occasionally depicted in fiction, do not exist; photos allegedly showing such animals are edited.
10. And, lastly, can someone tell me the scientific name of ANOTHER PALE feline?

Answer: Panthera Leo

Being among the most popular big cats to keep in zoos, lions still live in the wild in large areas of Africa and there is a small, critically endangered population, in India. Lions still make popular trophies among hunters and, while some controlled legal hunting exists, the majority of kills is from poachers. Along with tigers, lions are one of the few cats that actually occasionally attack humans for prey, but those incidents are rare.
