Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Drop a letter from "drummer" and rearrange the letters to get the type of crime the player is trying to solve.

Answer: murder

The purpose of Clue is to determine the person who committed the murder (whose name differs depending on whether the UK and the North American version of the game is being played), with what weapon, and in what room.

(If you're wondering how the picture of the crows fits into this, a group of crows is called a murder.)
2. Drop a letter from "lumps" and rearrange the letters to get the name of a player in the game whose title is professor.

Answer: plum

Professor Plum, as his name implies, is the purple (or violet) playing piece. He is the sixth and final piece to make his move. One advantage of choosing Professor Plum as a playing piece is that he has the easiest access to get to the kitchen, which is often considered the hardest room to get to.
3. Drop a letter from "cider" and rearrange the letters to get what a player uses to determine the number of steps a person can take in a turn.

Answer: dice

Games of Clue are played with a single die, although there are versions of the games that are played with two dice. The reason some versions have two dice is simply to speed up the game, since having the ability to move up to twelve spaces at a time will cause the game to be quicker than simply having the ability to move up to six spaces at a time.
4. Add a letter to "dust" and rearrange the letters to get one of the four rooms in the game that has a secret passage in it.

Answer: study

The study has a secret passage to the kitchen, which is on the opposite side of the game. The other secret passage connects the lounge with the conservatory. All four rooms are located on the corners of the game. To use the secret passage, the player simply needs to move the playing piece from one room to another.
5. Add a letter to "fink" and rearrange the letters to get the name of a weapon.

Answer: knife

The knife is one of the six weapons in the game. In the UK version of the game, the knife is replaced by the dagger. A new design for the dagger is made rather than simply replacing the name of the weapon. Like many weapons in most versions of the game, it is silver.
6. Add a letter to "guests" and rearrange the letters to get the term used when a player makes a guess (but not accuses).

Answer: suggest

Making a suggestion is when a player guesses who they believe is the correct suspect, weapon, and room. The person to the player's left attempts to prove the suggesting person wrong. If that person can, they must show the suggesting person a card. If not, play continues until everyone gets a chance to either prove or not prove the person wrong. Unlike with an accusation, a wrong suggestion does not cause the player to lose the game. Also, when making a suggestion, the player asks his fellow players.

When making an accusation, the player looks at the cards in the envelope marked "CONFIDENTIAL".
7. Add a letter to "balk" and rearrange the letters to get the name of the victim of the crime.

Answer: black

In the United States, the victim's name is Mr. Boddy. However, in the UK, his name is Dr. Black. Unlike the six suspects, there is no piece used to represent Boddy/Black.
8. Replace a letter in the word "draw" and rearrange the letters to get what the names of the suspects, weapons, and rooms are printed on.

Answer: card

There are 21 cards: six for suspects, six for weapons, and nine for rooms. Before shuffling and dealing the cards, one suspect card, one weapon card, and one room card are placed in the envelope marked "CONFIDENTIAL", which is then placed in the middle of the board on top of the stairs leading to the cellar.

After that is done, each player is dealt a certain number of cards. This number changes depending on how many people play, but it continues until each card is dealt to a player.
9. Replace a letter in the word "prop" and rearrange the letters to get the name of a weapon used in the game.

Answer: rope

One of the six murder weapons is the rope. In some versions of the game, it is made of plastic whereas the other weapons are silver. In other versions of the game, all weapons are a different color.
The other murder weapons are the knife, revolver, candlestick, lead pipe, and wrench.
10. Add a letter to "reacts" and rearrange the letters to get the name of the character in the game who moves first.

Answer: Scarlet

Miss Scarlet is the first piece to move. As her name implies, she is the red playing piece. The order in which pieces move are Miss Scarlet (red), Colonel Mustard (yellow), Miss White (white), Miss Peacock (blue), Mr. Green (green), and finally Professor Plum (purple).
