Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hesse presto?

Answer: espresso

Hermann Hesse (1877-1962) was a German novelist and poet. A Nobel laureate for literature, he wrote "Siddhartha," "Narcissus and Goldmund," "Demian," "Steppenwolf," and many other works. When I was a teenager EVERYONE was reading Hesse--it was a kind of cult.

Espresso, which is made by forcing steaming hot water through finely-ground coffee, is usually served in a demitasse with sugar and/or a lemon twist. It's very strong.
2. Cabbie she know?

Answer: cappuccino

The word CAPPUCCINO means "little monk's hood" in Italian. This coffee drink consists of one shot of espresso topped with a "hood" of steamed milk foam. Often the foam is topped with a sprinkling of cinnamon, powdered chocolate, or both. Cappuccinos usually come in thick china cups placed on saucers.
3. Store bugs?

Answer: Starbucks

These days, in San Francisco anyway, it seems like there is at least one Starbucks per block. My favorite drink there is the vanilla latte. Very fattening and expensive.
4. Burr Reese duh?

Answer: barista

The barista is the guy or gal who makes espresso drinks at Starbucks, Peets, and the myriad other coffee bars that exist in the world.
5. Cough hey Lottie?

Answer: cafe latte

CAFE LATTE means "coffee milk." A regular latte usually consists of one shot of expresso and about a cup and a half of steamed, foamy milk in a tall thick glass. If you pour the espresso in nice and slowly (following the milk), the drink will separate into three stripes: a white one at the top, a beige one in the middle, and a darker one at the bottom.
6. Dub bullocks spritz sew?

Answer: double espresso

I don't know how people can drink these. I wouldn't be able to sleep for two days.
7. Cuff Fay owe lei?

Answer: cafe au lait

Cafe au lait (coffee with milk) is the French version of a caffe latte. It's less foamy and sometimes smaller than a latte. It may come in a bowl.
8. Mucky yacht tow?

Answer: macchiato

A macchiato is an espresso with a little bit of foamy steamed milk on top.
9. Daub ill cuppa sheen hoe?

Answer: double cappuccino

As I'm sure you know, this is a cappuccino with two shots of espresso. Again--how can people handle this much caffeine?
10. Jaw fudge hive?

Answer: java jive

The Java Jive
by the Ink Spots

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the jivin' and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!

I love java, sweet and hot
Whoops! Mr. Moto, I'm a coffee pot
Shoot me the pot and I'll pour me a shot
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!

Oh, slip me a slug from the wonderful mug
And I cut a rug till I'm snug in a jug
A slice of onion and a raw one, draw one.
Waiter, waiter, percolator!

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the jivin' and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!

Boston bean, soy bean
Lima bean, string bean.
You know that I'm not keen for a bean
Unless it is a cheery coffee bean.

Drop me a nickel in my pot, Joe, Takin' it slow.
Waiter, waiter, percolator!

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the jivin' and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!
11. Dumby toss?

Answer: demitasse

In French this means "half cup," but most demitasses are even littler than that.
12. Fringe roost?

Answer: French roast

French roast coffee beans have been roasted long enough so that the oil rises to the beans' surface.
13. Cree mend shook her?

Answer: cream and sugar

The Cree people are native North Americans who lived and live in eastern Canada and in the north eastern U.S. Their name comes from "Kristineaux," a name given them by French fur traders, who called them "Kri" for short.

These days most of us use half and half or milk. My favorite kind of sugar for coffee is raw sugar cubes. Second favorite is light brown raw sugar granules in packets.
14. Caw fiche hob?

Answer: coffee shop

In the U.S., a coffee shop is an informal family-type restaurant that's one step up from a fast food place. Denny's is a famous chain of coffee shops.
15. Gnaw on fad laud hey?

Answer: nonfat latte

For those on diets.
