Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Be sure to pay attention to the number of words in each answer, because the number of spaces in the clue is not necessarily indicative of the number of words or where one word ends and another begins. For the purpose of this quiz, Y is a consonant, not a vowel. The theme is: Video game consoles DRM CST

Answer: Dreamcast

Released in 1998 in Japan and 1999 elsewhere, the Dreamcast was Sega's swansong as they bowed out of the video game console race. Spearheading the sixth generation of consoles (which later included the Nintendo Gamecube, Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation 2), the Dreamcast was, at the time, considered a significant innovation for Sega, especially considering the relative flop that was the Sega Saturn. Several hundred games were released for the Dreamcast during its lifetime.
2. The theme is: Video game consoles PL YST TNP RTBL

Answer: PlayStation Portable

The PlayStation Portable marked Sony's first foray into the handheld gaming market, giving Nintendo's phenomenally popular DS a run for its money. The PSP had the upper hand over its DS competitor, boasting a bevy of media features in addition to its gaming capabilities (such as video playback). The PSP was released in Japan in late 2004 and the rest of the world within a year of that.
3. The theme is: Video game consoles W

Answer: Wii

Arguably one of Nintendo's most innovative and unique offerings to the video game market, the Wii (released in 2006) competed against the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in gaming's seventh generation. Eschewing a traditional controller for input, the Wii opted for a single-handed Wii Remote, allowing for motion controls and interacting with the television screen by pointing at it (a feat possible thanks to a handy sensor bar packaged with the console).

Many games also utilised a Nunchuk controller (containing a single analogue control stick) that plugged into the Wii Remote.

The Wii was succeeded by the Wii U in 2012.
4. The theme is: Awards and their nicknames NTN TTP RRYWRD NDT NY

Answer: Antoinette Perry Award and Tony

The Tonys celebrate successes on the Broadway stage. Formally the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre (named for one of the co-founders of the American Theatre Wing), the Tonys have been awarded annually since 1947. Notable multi-winners over the years include composer Stephen Sondheim and playwright Tom Stoppard.
5. The theme is: Awards and their nickname GL DNR SPB RRYWR DND RZZ

Answer: Golden Raspberry Award and Razzie

The Razzies can be described as the Anti-Oscars and celebrates, well, film failures. Awards up for grabs include Worst Actor/Actress (and Worst Supporting roles too), Worst Screenplay and Worst Director. Though not held with the same regard as its positive contemporaries, several big names have collected their Razzies in person, including Halle Berry who received the Worst Actress award in 2005 for her title role in "Catwoman".
6. The theme is: Awards and their nicknames CDM YWR D NDS CR

Answer: Academy Award and Oscar

Pretty much the most prestigious film award in the world, the Academy Awards have been an annual event in world cinema since 1929. Awards are given in a multitude of categories, and those films that win awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay (Adapted or Original) at the same ceremony can boast that they're part of the Big Five club (named so because these are the top five awards). Only three films achieved this during the twentieth century: "It Happened One Night" in 1935, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" in 1976, and "The Silence of the Lambs" in 1992.
7. The theme is: Battles of the American Revolutionary War BTT LFBN K RHL L

Answer: Battle of Bunker Hill

The Battle of Bunker Hill occurred fairly early in the War, on 17 June 1775, at Charlestown, Massachusetts. A bloody affair, the battle resulted in a victory for the British, but at great cost to their numbers; around two-thirds of all casualties were British military personnel.
8. The theme is: Battles of the American Revolutionary War S GFCH R LST N

Answer: Siege of Charleston

Lasting from the end of March to mid-May 1780, the Siege of Charleston was one of the most devastating for the defending US and French forces, who eventually surrendered the South Carolinian city to the British.
9. The theme is: Battles of the American Revolutionary War BT TLSFL XN G TNND CN CRD

Answer: Battles of Lexington and Concord

The Battles of Lexington and Concord formally signalled a start to the American Revolutionary War, occurring on 19 April 1775. The British were tasked with destroying military supplies belonging to the Massachusites; they accomplished this but were driven back to Boston by the Massachusetts forces, sparking the Siege of Boston. Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Concord Hymn" described the start of the war with the phrase "the shot heard round the world".
10. The theme is: Musicians and their stage name P LHWS N ND BN

Answer: Paul Hewson and Bono

Bono is, of course, the lead singer of Irish rock group U2. His trademark sunglasses, which he seemingly wears all the time, aren't a fashion statement - he has glaucoma and his eyes are particularly sensitive to bright light.

Bono once fell off the stage at a concert, when he was standing too close to The Edge.
11. The theme is: Musicians and their stage name GR DNS MNR NDS TNG

Answer: Gordon Sumner and Sting

Sting is known for both his solo work and his time as the lead singer of The Police. His moniker comes from his early days as a musician, where he would occasionally wear a black-and-yellow striped top, which resulted in comments from his bandmates that he looked like a bee.
12. The theme is: Musicians and their stage name MRS HLLM TH R SNDM NM

Answer: Marshall Mathers and Eminem

Eminem is one of the most prolific hip hop artists of the century, having sold millions of albums worldwide and being an influential figure in rap. He has won a slew of Grammy Awards and even picked up an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2003 for "Lose Yourself", which was featured in the 2002 film "8 Mile".
13. The theme is: US airports CHR LTTD GLS

Answer: Charlotte Douglas

Charlotte Douglas International Airport services the North Carolinian city of Charlotte. It first opened in 1936 as the Charlotte Municipal Airport, before being renamed in recognition of Ben Elbert Douglas, Sr, a former mayor of Charlotte, to Douglas Municipal Airport.

It underwent another name change in 1982 to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, following its expansion and new terminal.
14. The theme is: US airports BF FLNGR

Answer: Buffalo Niagara

As its name suggests, Buffalo Niagara International Airport is located in the city of Buffalo, NY. It is a transport hub for both Buffalo as well as neighbouring Canadian province Ontario. Several million passengers flow through the airport each year, making it one of the busiest in the US.
15. The theme is: US airports LGR D

Answer: LaGuardia

Amongst New York City's numerous airports is the Queens-based LaGuardia Airport. Originally Glenn H. Curtiss Airport and later North Beach Airport, it was renamed in 1953 in recognition of then-mayor of NYC, Fiorello La Guardia, who championed the construction of the airport after a flight to New York that sent him to the nearest airport at the time in Newark, New Jersey.
