Answer: Frances Gumm

In 1934, Frances and her sisters performed at the Chicago World's Fair. At the Oriental Theater they were introduced by comedian George Jessel, who renamed the girls "The Garland Sisters" after getting laughs introducing them as "The Gumm Sisters" (legend has it that he chose the name after speaking on the phone with theater critic Robert Garland). Frances chose the name Judy, a song by Hoagy Carmichael.
2. Judy Garland was forced on medication as soon as she started her career. What kind of medicine was it?

Answer: She took weight control pills.

She was already thin, but Hollywood thought she should be thinner. They put her on diet pills that eventually led to addiction and soon enough, death.
