John was chosen for this role by the head of the studio, Fred Silverman. Prior to this he had only appeared in recurring roles and guest starring roles.
2. What 1970s T.V. show did John Ritter have a recurring role on as a Reverend?

Answer: The Waltons

John was only 24 years old when he began doing the role as the Reverend on "The Waltons" in 1972. Even though he is usually known for comedy, he did have his serious side.

Answer: 1984

John won his Emmy just before the show was cancelled.

Answer: Hooperman

John's character on "Hooperman" falls for the manager of the apartment complex (played by Deborah Farentino) and had a dog that mixed into the comedy. It lasted for 2 seasons, from 1987-1989.

This also starred Markie Post. It was on from 1992-1995. A wonderful show that didn't last as long as it should have.
