Born, Robert Alan Monkhouse, Bob was born June 1, 1928. Bobs mother and father owned a factory which made custard, although Bob never worked in the business. Bob attended Dulwich College a public school but was later expelled.

In the early 40s Bob Monkhouse was called up to serve in the National service. At a later date he was posted to London where he became secretary to a Group Captain.

"The Golden Shot" was first aired on British TV in 1967, and soon became a huge hit with the viewers. The highlight of the show came at the end where a blind-folded cameraman had a crossbow linked to a TV camera. The winning contestant gave instructions to the camera man by giving him directions.

The term up-a-bit, down-a-bit, left-a-bit and fire had the nation on the edge of their seat. The idea was for the cameraman to guide the crossbow and fire it so the bolt would hit a piece of cord on a target. If the cord broke a trapdoor would open and coins would fall out, winner takes all!

The story revolved around an aristocratic family who lived in a large house with servants. Bob Monkhouse sang the song in a 1920s style, in which the series was set.
