Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Imus' full name?

Answer: John Donald Imus, Jr.

"Mr. Imus" to all the little people, the "I-Man" to his toadies.
2. Where is Imus originally from?

Answer: Perris, California

John Donald, Jr. was born and raised in Perris, Ca. During the summer, the Imuses would go to his grandfather's Willows Ranch [about 50 miles outside of Prescott, Arizona.] and work on the 35 thousand acre cattle ranch. His family moved to Scottsdale, Az. and later settled in Prescott during his high school years. Imus' second-most-famous radio gig was in Cleveland, Ohio. Imus has been a fixture on New York City radio station 660-AM [WNBC/WFAN] since 1971.
3. What is the name of Imus' brother?

Answer: Fred

Fred, a regular on the Imus show, is Don's younger brother by about two years. He has been, among other things, an antique car restorer [specializing in 1957 Chevys], a Ranger in the U.S. Army, a recording artist, an auto-body-repair supply company salesman/proprietor, a DJ, a country music songwriter [lyricist for the 1976 #1 country music hit and song of the year "I Don't Want To Have To Marry You", co-written with Phil Sweet and recorded by Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius], and a rancher.
4. What is the name of Imus' best friend and broadcast partner of more than 25 years?

Answer: Charles McCord

McCord was already a gifted news-writer at 660-AM WNBC, when Imus arrived from Cleveland in 1971. The two worked well together and hit it off primarily because of their respect for each other's intelligence and shared twisted sense of humor. Rob Bartlett and Larry Kenney are writers/actors/impressionists on the Imus show and Bernard McGuirk is the producer of "Imus In The Morning."
5. What is the name of Imus' second wife?

Answer: Deirdre Coleman

The two met in 1992 when Deirdre [25 years younger than Imus] appeared in a fitness-model contest on the "Imus In The Morning" show. They were married on a Navajo Indian Reservation on December 17, 1994. The 5'8", 120 pound Deirdre was once nick-named "the Animal" by the denizens of Gleason's Gym, a famous boxing factory in Brooklyn, NY because of her all-out boxing/kickboxing workouts.

A former Villinova University track star, Mrs. Imus has been described as a cross between Martha Stewart, Anna Quindlen, Jim Ryan, Oscar de la Hoya, and Cindy Crawford.

She is the mother of Imus's only son, Wyatt [Frederick Wyatt]. Esther "Lobster" Newberg is Imus's literary agent, Harriet Showalter was his first wife, and Nadine Showalter is Harriet's daughter from her first marriage, whom Imus adopted.
6. What is the name of Imus' son?

Answer: Frederick Wyatt Imus

Called Wyatt by mom and dad, born Frederick [after brother Fred] Wyatt [after Wyatt Earp] Imus in July of 1998.
7. Imus was fired from 660-AM WNBC.

Answer: True

From 1971 until 1977, Imus had developed a reputation as being difficult to work with, a prima donna, and a "rock star." He had turned 660-AM WNBC from a stodgy "elevator music" station into an on-the-edge rock and roll station, he had become a successful stand-up comedian in New York City, he had recorded some comedy albums, and he had hosted his own television talk show ["Imus In The Evening"] in that time period...and he had lived a rock star life style; drinking excessively, womanizing, thumbing his nose at authority and management, and ignoring the radio career that had made all the other perks available. So when a management changeover occurred at the station in 1977, Imus [and "Cousin" Bruce Morrow] were fired. Imus returned to Cleveland radio where he immmediately began a successful run, staying out of trouble and controversial situations.

In 1979, Imus returned to New York City and WNBC-AM radio, opening his show with these words [as his alter-ego, the evangalistic Right Rev. Dr. Billy Sol Hargis]: "Send me to Cleveland? You can't do that...God's only chosen, re-rosen disc jockey has returned!"
8. What is the name of Imus' best-selling novel?

Answer: God's Other Son

Published as a paperback by Simon and Shuster in 1981, "God's Other Son" is the fictional biography of the Right Rev. Dr. Billy Sol Hargis, evangelist minister of the Discount House of Worship in Del Rio, Texas...and the younger brother of Jesus Christ! The book was reissued as a hardcover in 1994 and made the "New York Times" best-sellers list. The other titles are Imus comedy albums.
9. Who is considered to be Imus' most hated rival?

Answer: Howard Stern

Howard Stern arrived at 660-AM WNBC in 1982 and management immediately made his life miserable in an attempt to control him so he wouldn't follow in the footsteps of Imus, who was the inmate running the asylum. They demanded that Stern change his act and become skit-oriented, as Imus was. Basically, Howard was jealous of how everyone at the station kow-towed to Imus, whom he considered lazy in his approach to radio, and showed no respect to Stern.

In all likelyhood, the oft-inebriated, drugged [cocaine], or hung-over Imus paid little or no attention to Stern or any other goings-on at the radio station during those years that they worked together. Howard Stern was fired from WNBC in 1985 and went to work for New York City's 92.3-FM WXRK [K-Rock]...opposite Imus during the all-important early morning drive time and bringing the perceived rivalry with him.
10. Imus was one of the original veejays for VH1. True or false?

Answer: True

In 1985, along with radio personalities Scott Shannon and Frankie Crocker and recording artists Rita Coolidge and John "Bowzer" Bauman [of Sha Na Na], Imus was one of the veejays that launched VH1.
