Lucinda had four siblings; Willis, who was seventeen, Lemuel, also known as Lem, who was fifteen, Green, who was nine, and Mary. Mary was only two when she died of fever, aboard a schooner.

Galba was Willis' friend. Galba was sixteen, and was "tall and handsome", as Lucinda put it. Although Lucinda's heart would pound whenever he was nearby, he treated her like a younger sister.

Mr. Roe, Mittie's father, was working at a mill, but never called or wrote. Rumor spread that he left his wife. That distressed Mittie very badly. Then they found out in a paper that he died of smallpox.

Earlier in the book, Lucinda had a bag of pecans stolen from her, but right before Christmas, found it buried underground. She let it soak in whiskey, and then gave the flavored pecans to her papa and brother, Willis, for Christmas.

Answer: Davy Crockett

The Lawrence family were on their way to San Antonio when their wagon axle broke. Then who rode up but Davy Crockett, who helped them fix their wagon axle so that they could continue on their way.
9. What did Aunt Esperanza name her child?

Answer: George Washington

Uncle Isaac and Aunt Esperanza named their baby boy George Washington, after the president George Washington, because their baby was born ten-odd days before George Washington's birthday. George Washington (the president) was born on February 22nd.
10. Lem died at the end of the book.

Answer: False

Lem disappeared in March of 1836. He left with his pet raccoon and crow. He had been on his way to fight at the Alamo, but had gotten captured by the Comanche Indians. It took him weeks to escape.
