Esther's parents had died when she was really young. She was taken in and was raised by Mordecai, a close relative. Mordecai took care of Esther as if she was his own daughter. He worked in the king's palace and provided for her very well.
2. The king was very displeased with his wife for not coming to a party. What did he do to Queen Vashti?

Answer: he banished her

The king had commanded his wife to come to a party in front of all his princes. He wanted to show her off because she was very beautiful. Queen Vashti said no and did not come. It made the king very angry. The king's advisors were afraid that because the queen disobeyed the king, she would encourage other women to dishonor their husbands.

They told the king to send her away, and the king did. He realized later it was a horrible mistake.

Answer: Go to the king and ask him to save her people.

When Mordecai found out about Haman's plan he tore his clothes and cried. Esther found out about it and asked him why he was so sad. Mordecai told her of Haman's law and how all the Jews would be killed. He begged her to go to the king, but Esther knew anyone who saw the king without permission could be killed. Mordecai told her she had become queen for such a time as this. Esther had her people pray and when she went to the king, the king showed her favor.

The first party was so good, the king told her to ask for anything she wanted. Esther asked for them to join her again for dinner. On the second night, Esther told the king if she had pleased him, to spare the lives of her and her people. Haman and the king did not know she was a Jew.

The king was so angry he asked Esther who had planned this evil thing. Esther told him it was the wicked Haman.
