Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. DONNA started to make a BEAD necklace, but she gave up the idea.

Answer: abandoned

When a building is left empty, and allowed to decay, it is said to be abandoned. The same word can be used for when you give up an idea, or a venture. You could even leave your friends abandoned, if you walk away and leave them all alone.
2. FAT BAKERS eat too much in the morning!

Answer: breakfast

In countries around the world, people eat all sorts of different things for breakfast, but sadly, in some countries, children have nothing to eat.
3. TOM was very PATIENT; he resisted the urge to take a cookie out of the jar, but he knew he must wait until after lunch.

Answer: temptation

Sometimes it's difficult to resist temptation. Do you remember the story of Adam and Eve in the Bible? The serpent got Eve to eat the fruit off the tree of knowledge. He made it sound so good, that Eve could not resist the temptation to try it - but in life, we must all learn to resist the temptation to do things that we really know are wrong.
4. It was spring, and the little ELF was ROWING down the river - all around him, he could see the daisies and the tulips beginning to blossom.

Answer: flowering

When plants and trees begin to open up their blossoms, they are said to be "flowering". This word can used for all things that grow, blossom, and produce seeds. If you are a young teenage girl, then you will soon be "flowering" into womanhood.
5. RELATING to a shape with three sides - now what on earth could that be?

Answer: triangle

Triangle - a shape with three sides. They come in all sizes, and can be Scalene, Isosceles, Right angle, or Equilateral - but you already knew that didn't you!
6. The TAXI driver made an ERROR, and gave ANDY too much change. It was very surprising - something that isn't seen very often!

Answer: extraordinary

If something is described as extraordinary, it is above and beyond what is expected - something that is not normal or even acceptable. It can also be used to describe something that is exceptional, as in everyone scoring 10 out of 10 on this quiz! That WOULD be extraordinary! :-)
7. After looking at the NATO ARMY FILM, some of the comments were unnecessary, and were bound to cause arguments.

Answer: inflammatory

It is often so easy to make a comment that somebody might take the wrong way. Everyone has opinions on things, but we all have to be tolerant of the opinion of others, and must never deliberately make a comment that we know will upset people. If we do, then we are guilty of being inflammatory.
8. PHILIP HAS COOL hands, and has a theory as to why. He doesn't like his hands being cool, but he accepts the fact.

Answer: philosophical

Philip is calm, wise, and temperate about his cold hands, he accepts that he was born that way - his attitude towards it is philosophical. To him, it is a way of life.
9. All these unnecessary things, why are they there - they are SURE to cause FOUL-UPS.

Answer: superfluous

If something is superfluous, it is not needed, more than enough, redundant. Many people think that body hair is superfluous, and they go to great extremes to remove it. If you talk too much, then many of your words could be superfluous!
10. Mom wanted ME to EAT SALT, but Toby said to refuse. Mom insisted, so we all just sat looking at my food.

Answer: stalemate

Stalemate is when there is no way to carry on, nobody can win. All attempts have been made to resolve the problem, but there is no solution. This often happens in government, when one side is trying to propose something, and the other side opposes it.
