Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "The Wizard and the Hopping Pot", what is the sick baby cured with?

Answer: Dittany

We first hear of "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" - Professor Albus Dumbledore actually leaves Hermione Granger an original copy, written in runes, in his will.

A kindly wizard died, leaving everything to his only son. Amongst the things was an old cooking pot, what his father had called "his lucky cooking pot", which he used for the good. The son found a single slipper inside the cooking pot.
2. In "The Wizard and the Hopping Pot", what happens when the son sends a peasant woman away?

Answer: The pot grows a single foot of brass

The son is not as kindly as his father, who used to help the peasants. After the cooking pot behaves in a very peculiar manner, the son finally sees the error of his ways and helps the peasants. The cooking pot returns to a standard cooking pot, but now wears the slipper on its foot.
3. In "The Fountain of Fair Fortune", what day is a single unfortunate given the chance to bathe in the Fountain of Fair Fortune?

Answer: The longest day

Three witches decide to try their luck with the fountain. They all have their problems - Asha was sick, the Healers could not cure her, Altheda had been robbed of her home by an evil sorcerer, and Amata had been deserted by a man. They are joined by an unfortunate Knight, Sir Luckless.
4. In "The Fountain of Fair Fortune", what creature guards the fountain?

Answer: Worm

After many trials along the way the three witches realise that they did not need to bathe in the Fountain. The three of them had formed a firm friendship, and with Sir Luckless. Sir Luckless bathes in the Fountain, and then asks Amata to marry him. However, the Fountain's waters carried no enchantment at all.
5. In "The Warlock's Hairy Heart", where did the warlock keep his heart?

Answer: In the dungeons

This, for me, is the grisliest story of the collection. He vowed he would never fall in love, and employed Dark Arts to ensure his immunity. He was annoyed to overhear his servants pitying him and decided to take a wife superior to all others.
6. In "The Warlock's Hairy Heart", what does the warlock use to kill his heart?

Answer: Silver dagger

The warlock met a beautiful young witch, and decided to marry her. He showed her his heart, what he kept in an enchanted crystal casket. It was shrunken and covered in long black hair. The warlock killed the witch, to exchange her pure heart for his own. This did not work, and the end, he died.
7. In "Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump", what Muggle fairy tale is it similar to?

Answer: "The Emperors New Clothes"

Babbitty was a washerwoman but she was not all she seemed. A charlatan came to a foolish King, when he decided that he alone should have the power of magic. The charlatan could not perform magic either, but managed to get many things from the King.
8. In "Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump", what did Babbitty ask the foolish King to build?

Answer: A statue of herself

Babbitty was a witch; she was able to change herself into a rabbit. She made the foolish King promise that no witch or wizard was persecuted again.
9. In "The Tale of the Three Brothers", at what time do the three brothers travel down a long and winding road?

Answer: Twilight

This story first appeared in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", the final book in the "Harry Potter" series. Three brothers manage to trick Death into giving them each a gift.
10. In "The Tale of the Three Brothers", who does the youngest son finally give the Cloak to?

Answer: His son

The eldest brother got Death to give him an Elder wand. It does not bring him much luck, as his throat is cut a short time later. Death gives the second brother a Resurrection Stone, a stone that can bring the dead back to life. The second brother is driven mad by the Stone and eventually kills himself. Finally, Death gave the third brother his own Cloak of Invisibility.

The youngest brother is sensible and uses the Cloak wisely. It is eventually passed down to James Potter, and his son, Harry Potter. I hope you enjoyed my quiz!
